Break Barrell Vs Side lever.

Post by Foz »

Hi all and happy Australia Day,

I have been doing the rounds as you know and learning about the pros and cons of the modern air rifle.

Does pulling down on the barrel alter the impact point of pellets?

Is there any inconsistancy of velocity with levers being pumped?

I promise i will stop the questions soon as my brain is almost full.

If you are asking if a break barrel is less accurate than a fixed barrel I would say no,I was also under that opinion once but the purchase of an R1 fixed that thought.
In the lower quality rifles you may see a shift in the POI due to larger fit tolerances in the lock up mechanism, remember the scope is mounted on the compression tube and not the barrel.
As for your second question Im not sure what you are asking.??
There are multi pump rifles that will alter the velocity depending on the amount of pumps it receives, but a side lever is basically single stroke and dont see how this would cause a variation in velocity, although all airguns will have a slight deviation in the velocity shot string ranging from roughly 3-15 fps depending on many factors.
It's good to ask questions, If you dont ask ,you dont learn.!!!

If you are hunting then you might not notice the POI moving in a Scoped good break barrel.
If you use the iron sights with a break barrel then POI will probably not move as the iron sights are on the barrel itself where as the scope is on the main body.

But if you want to target shoot, a Side lever will probably be better.

Technically, sidelever and underlever are more accurate. Because the scope and barrel do not change relation during the firing cycle.

However, In today's modern breakbarrel, there isn't much movement, very little at all, insignificant. I wouldn't put money on either in a competition, because with the precision of the machine itself, you are betting on the shooter. If you are new to airguns, then I suggest a simple breakbarrel, they are very userfriendly.
