So....Do Gamo have any good qualities?

Hey all,
Having read a few posts which seem to indicate a dislike for Gamo ARs, I was wondering if someone can give some reasons as to why they are no good.
Sure, they might be cheap, inaccurate, nasty and slow but are there any real reasons?
No, i really want to know.

G'Day
NO GOOD- would be a very broad statement, they just are nowhere near as good as some of their competition.

Hi Foz,
It's just a matter of getting what you pay for. Not only for quality of air rifle but quality of service as well. If you can stretch your budget an extra $200-$300 you can get an exception air rifle that is nice to use and will last you forever or you can get something a little cheaper that works but isn't as nice, accurate and you don't have great service if you didn't buy off Lewis. The service that Lewis provides is second to none compared to any other dealer that sells firearms in this country. I have dealt with several dealers over the years and none that is NONE of them have equaled Lewis in his before and after sales service. That is a big reason to buy from Beeman Aus and worth every cent of a premium airgun.
Think of Gamo as the Hyundai's of the airgun world. Sure they will get you to where you need to go, they will work but won't be as good or last as long. Beeman are like your BMW's of the springer world and they work sensationally and they will last forever. The only difference is that it doesn't cost you as much to get a Beeman. Buy once Cry once!

KJD Gamo wish they were the Hyundai of the airgun world. Hyundai now goes great in the US J D Powers quality surveys.
AFAIK airarms are more complicated than rimfirearms, therefore you will pay more for equivalent workmanship & accuracy (although far less per shot).

Now, I don't want to seem to be in favour of the Gamo brand but in all things you get what you pay for. There are some air-powered guns around that make Gamo look really good and the Gamo "Compact" air pistol represented good value for money. Just a pitty that Highland Sports no-longer support that product with spare parts and who is to say that they won't do that with other products that they currently sell?

Hi Foz,
I agree with all the previous replies.
I have shot a Gamo CFX, and if I hadn't shot an air rifle since my youth, I would have said it was very accurate and a great bit of kit.
However, I had been shooting an FWB 300 only just before, and after the FWB, the Gamo felt and sounded "tinny", and simply not in the same league for accuracy.
But it is horses for courses, and I'm shooting 10m target, so the Gamo would not cut it compared to the FWB. If I was after a rifle for treating rough and knocking over pest birds on the farm, or rolling tin cans, the CFX would probably do it quite well. I know it can hit a 10 cent piece at 12m.
IMHO, If I was looking at buying a Gamo I would be asking Lewis what he might have in his inventory for a similar price to any Gamo I was considering, not only for the after sales service mentioned previously, but because I'm sure that I would end up with a better quality air rifle for the price, even if it is second hand. I would be very surprised if Lewis didn't have something nice in a preloved Gecado or the like, that would do the job.
But that's me, and I won't bag anyone for buying a Gamo and having some fun. I just reckon you can do better. But for others, if it does the job, it may lead to better things later.
And I'll be happy to wager that there are a lot worse things than Gamos out there as well!!!
The strong recommendation is to see what Lewis can do for you. Drop a post in the "lewis's corner" section, under Businesses. Let him know what you want to shoot (pest birds/tin cans/10m terget) and he'll have a suggestion, I'm sure. He really is a good person to deal with. And he'll know what pellets work best with whatever you shoot.

You really need to compare apples with apples - it's not really fair to compare a $400 Gamo to an $800 HW etc.
It'd be fairer to compare Gamo to a similar priced range of guns like the Noricas and some of the Chinese made guns (often stamped with larger gun maker's brand names).
Either way, most all springers will benefit from a decent lube tune out of the box.

Thanks again guys, the knowledge base on this forum is outstanding but far more outstanding is the fact that there are those who wish to share and guide others. Brilliant.
I will continue my education in "Airgun 101" prior to any purchase and will most certainly 'talk' to Lewis.
