R9 and Predators

The ever fantastic Lewis sent me some Predators to try with meagre 2 tins of JSB's. Wasn't sure which was heavier so threw them on my lee scales and the .20 predators were 13.9 or 13.8 mostly some went to 13.7 and some right on 14gr. The Exacts were coming about 13.5 and with about the same margin as the predators so looking good for the predators.

Went down stairs and put 20 odd predators through the R9 and yes she likes them :D Shooting sitting on an old paint drum 5 shot groups @ 10m were pretty much one ragged hole hovering around 10mm, this is about as good as I can do with the exacts with the same reset and shooting to pretty much the same POI :D

What was interesting is the holes they were leaving in the paper targets, there is a single neat hole just like other pellets however with two vertical lines, one at the top and one at the bottom, bit like a plane flying on one side. This was shooting into 50mm pine beam so not sure what is happening but figure the plastic tip is beginning its destructiveness pretty early on in the piece.

Now, just hope the mynah's are breeding up nicely

Once again big thanks to Lewis 8)

Good to hear about the performance.

I think Harry (yrrah) did a test on the predators a little while back and found when shooting an 80mm? bit of pine found they collapsed into a similar shape as your finding. I cant recall the specifics, but i do remember something along those lines.

Then again i could just be off my rocker

If you open the post " Predators" just down from here and scroll through to my response you will see an incomplete list of my Predator pellet research ( there was a deal more ) ... OK the # 4 ( 4 th ) reference down that list will take you to the wood experiment ... These were .22 pellets and it shows that, in the wood used, the Predators extruded into a streamlined shape and outpenetrated the JSB Exacts and the Crow Magnums from the same rifle. ..... However another of those referenced experiments will show that the Predators dumped more energy and momentum into a Myna than either the Crow magnums or the Exacts.

Penetration and energy dump varies according to the nature of the medium the pellet is impacting. This is where confusion and debate can run riot. .. POI velocity has its affect too. At very low velocities the Predators don't expand but penetrate deeper than they will at a somewhat higher velocity that causes expansion. We can have it both ways if we play our cards right ............. You might be able to tell us something about the .20 cal when you get the time ....... Happy reading Stinky .... Kind regards, Harry.

Hi Harry

I will go and have another read of some of your posts, it will be interesting to see how they perform in the .20 and at less energy than the PCP's are pushing out. My initial observations were that the exacts were penetrating more than the predators but will actually pull some of the proj's and see what the difference is. I just love seeing pellets stacked in timber
