Just wandering what the weights are of the following pellets are:
H&N Field & Target Trophy in .20
JSB Exacts Diablo's in .20


Wonderful Lewis gave me a heap of different pellets to try, and to be honest they all shoot pretty good so far out of my Lewis Tuned R9, see pic these were shot at 9.5 meters using my home made bench and a sleeping bag.

Looking on the WWW H&N's were 15.1 gr this I take it would be about the heaviest .20 around?? not sure on the exacts though.

They Pretty much all shoot to similar POI but guessing this will change out past 15 meters.

On another note would a Pointed pellet (Kodiak) be better for say a Fox or Cat or the Domed JSB/H&N's just as effective especially if they are heavier

H&N FT .20 vary around 11.5 gns.
JSB are 13.73.
Kodiak 13.32

JSB are the best everywhere!!!

dont know the H&N's

I use all domed pellets for hunting furry animals with all my airguns. Mostly Beeman FTS or JSB Exacts in 22 cal
Cats done in the head with JSB's have a mushy head feel to them and it's all good.

and FTS and Kodiaks in .25 cal

I don't consider Kodiaks to be pointed- half domed half pointed maybe but not pointed like a Stratton , Silver arrow or similar.

I like crow magnum hollow points-- CM's in .25 cal almost cut pest birds in half

Use the most accurate shooting domed pellet and just drill them in the head and the job will be done.

Even with the .25 cal doing 48 FPE I choose a head shot over a body if given the chance ( cats I take whatever shot is avail )
With head shots you usually have a hit and dropped or a miss situation and with me finding domed pellets to be more accurate- you get more hit and drops.

Stick to either JSB Exact or Kodiaks in your .20 for what you want. They will do best further down range. The lighter F&TT is a good little pellet in .20 but won't carry as much energy further out. Stay away from any real pointy pellets as they are almost always less accurate. Kodiaks can be considered as round nosed in this context. Round nosed pellets with plenty of their weight in the nose are best for accuracy and down range performance ( as contrasted to those with the hollow in the skirt going right up into the head ). ...

Although your rifle would kill a fox ( especially a small young one ) with a very well placed head shot at the right angle at close range, it might be wise to not use it for that purpose. Poor shots on animals last long in the memory of those who have some feeling for their quarry.

what speed is your R9 doing with these pellets and I can give you an idea of what sort of FPE it's putting out at what ranges

on the US beeman site they giv indications of what sort of FPE is required to hunt certain animals

Hey Ogre thanks don't have a chrony, lewis might know. Guessing around 15FPE with the tune up normally 14 I think

Probably 15FP with JSB,16FP with FTS.

35 yard zero
15 FPE with JSB

-3/4 at 4.5 yards,
first zero at 10y (13 FPE)
mid height +2/3 at 25Y (11.5 FPE)
zero at 35 Y (10.5 FPE)
3/4 low at 40Y (almost 10 FPE)
-2 inches at 45 Y just on 9 FPE

Harry not really planning on taking foxes with the R9 but just a what if it was in my hands and he was only 10-15 meters away?? I do know that guys have used there R9's for head shots on cats but will spend some more time practicing

Another question if my scope adjustment is 1/8 at 100meters what is it at 10meters?

it will be a 10th of 1/8", so damn miniscule.. ie .125" is an 1/8 so at 10 it wil be .0125" which translatest to 12 thou theoreticly of course!

Have fun nailing thouse minors mate, I was bloody impressed with that thing when I looked at it the other night!

hehe yeah dumb arse here worked it out, took about 8 MOA on the scope to bring it up to where I wanted it.

1/8" clicks on air rifles would be a bit too fine though wouldn't it really? still very nice scope.. would like to have a look through that in daylight when I'm around next!

yeah 1/8 is probably, but once its where it is it doesn't really need to move much, plus most of the elevation charts can show MOA so not too bad.

I don't know about the weights... but I'd use a hollow point on a cat or bigger small game animal. Over 5 pounds I think you need the expansion of a hollow point, or for larger targets like say.. a fox, a pointed pellet would work better. This because you probably can't get as close and a headshot on a fox would be more effective, a body shot would not.

For small animals like squirrels, chipmunks, birds, and ground squirrels you need accuracy because of the small target and they are easily frieghtened.
