Hi guys,
How is your FT scene developing over there?

I would like to keep abreast of your sport, and have been kicking about an idea for a regional or Southern Hemisphere competition. Or at the least perhaps some Internationals at some stage.

One of ours is coming over to shoot Sil Air Rifle at the Pacific champs soon. Our Nationals are in November here in New Zealand. We will have Air Rifle Silouhette officially for the first time.

Any thought of joining the WFTF?

cheers
GS

Mate I think thats the best we can expect in any Country outside of the UK.

Best to just get on with enjoying it,........Maybe we shall organise something between us one day. Whether it is part of another fixture or a standalone event. Someone might like to chance their arm.

cheers

I wish there was field target here... It looks like it would be a lot of fun but I think the problem is there just aren't enough air-rifle fans down under...

I think one of the best ways to generate some interest in FT is to find an area of the range to shoot, even if only 4 or 5 targets, and see what the other shooters think. Most small-bore shooters are happy to find something diferent to shoot at and with the price of rimfire ammo going silly these days "air" could become quite popular. Is there a metalic shilouette shooting nearby? They shoot a similar discipline, I think it's harder than FT because it is shot from a standing position. They may be interested in shooting FT, just for a change.
Dennis.

Ranges typically can be from 10 yards out to 55 yards. You can start out on a flat level grass field, or try a winding forest course.

A short course can be a bit like this:
http://www.nzairgunners.com/nzairgunfor ... php?t=3413" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

http://www.nzairgunners.com/nzairgunfor ... php?t=2947" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Or what the UK shooters do, with a bit more room and a winding forest track.

Really it is what you want to make of it.

Who would be interested in a field target or Met-Sil shoot at springvale SSAA or that shooting club under the west gate bridge??

we would have to offer it to springers and PCP's or our fields might be a little small

I realise this is an old thread...

I used to shoot Field Target archery. Now a thought occurs, licencing and range approvals aside, has anyone thought about approaching 3dAAA (http://www.3daaa.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) or ABA (http://www.bowhunters.org.au/phpBB3/portal.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) (the field archery associations) and seeing if there was any interest in sharing ranges?

I would be interested as a busted shoulder has curtailed my archery.

BTW field archery is shot at unmarked distances between 5 and ~50m.

Boy do I wish Field target would get up here. The thing is that it does not take much more effort
to put up an FT set on a 100M range than putting out your Met Sils. For the sake of convenience the same range area can be used for a versatile compact target line up. If you want to expand your target types that also can be sorted in the same range area,even better if there is a bit of natural bush on the land as well. You can shoot this event with 10 metre A/R,s too,they are shooting Met Sil with them anyway.
I'm talking to my mob here so we will see I guess :rifle2:

could it be shot indoors in a large factory??

seeing that VAPA has a trailer setup and approved as a mobile airgun range- how hard would it be to get a factory approved for AG's only

I have been looking on line but haven't been able to find a range profile or specifications etc for Vic

Old thread or not, I thought I would add that I am confirmed to go to the World Field Target Championships in Pretoria, South Africa. September 25-27th.

I have to change planes in Perth on the way from New Zealand to South Africa. Not sure what to expect from customs......hope we do not have to take the air rifles thru customs just to change planes.

We would love to have some Aussies attend the Worlds with us each year. If anyone wants to kick it into gear over there, and start a National Body, get hold of me on gov.nzafta@hotmail.com and I can help out on the approach to the World Federation for National body status. Then you can attend or send a team every year.

Brazil has just applied to join WFTF, that would make 23 Countries that play Field Target now.

cheers
