FWB 600,more testing

Post by CBM »

I headed back to the 10 metre indoor Air rifle Range ,this time with no time constraints so I could try some different things.
First was Lighting.
At the range you can have the option of a light above your target, the middle of the range or the bench area illuminated with fluorescent lights individually or all at once, plus there are curtains at the rear of the range which can be drawn letting in Natural light.
I picked up one of the Feinwerkbau 600 rifles that I am lucky enough to have available and put it in my basic benchrest-sandbag set up which was on the bench ready to go.
This rifle has FeinwerkBau Target sights ,fore sight insert is 4 mm.
I used RWS Meisterkulgen 8.3 gram pellets straight from the tin of 500,unsorted.
The point of impact changes from one target to the next as I adjust the sights and try to get the holes appearing in the middle of the bullseye.

Target 1
I held the rifle lightly from shot to shot.
I put the range lights on above the target and opened a curtain to let natural light in where I was shooting from.
I really struggled on this target and found the last couple of shots hard to line up as the target had become very blurry.

After this target I put the rifle away and went outside for 15 minutes to have a can of coke and let my eye recover.

Target 2
Light Hold on rifle, curtains closed and range lights above the shooting bench and target used, it was much easier to see that is for sure.

Target 3
Shot rifle Free recoil only touching the trigger, all the range lights now turned on and this made seeing better again

Target 4
Light Hold on Rifle, range lights above bench and middle of range used

Target 5
Rifle held firmly,I put all the range lights on again. This is definitely the best option with this Target sight set up
I shot this card next and started in the bottom middle diagram and shot one shot per diagram in a clockwise rotation.
The rifle felt very comfortable and the sight picture was great so I finished with 5 shots in the bottom right Diagram.
It is interesting the point of impact changed on the upper row even though the rear sand bag was only moved a couple of millimetres to change the rifles elevation.
Image

The last group of the trip [Bottom right Target] equalled Feinwerkbau's accuracy guarantee of .04 inch {1mm} centre to centre but with 5 shots and not 3.

Image

The 5 shot , 5 group aggregate for this trip to the range was .125 inch [3.175mm].

Next trip to the range I will try my co-axial front rest and Edgewood sand bags to see if I can illuminate the different points of impact as you move around on a multi diagram target.
I will also try a a lighter pellet for accuracy.
All these targets were shot one after the other and no targets or shots have been discarded to make things look good..

Keep smiling,

Charlie
If any of the computer Gurus could please tell me why on this post when I downloaded the photo links the photo is not shown just the link?

Thankyou for your time.
