Can you guys suggest a design for a pellet trap that doesn't make a large clanging sound when the pellet hits.

I have just gained access to a small rural property where I am beign allowed to practice and dont want to annoy any one.

Any pics or links to designs would be great thanks

Try my favourite El cheapo and Quiet pellet trap, A BEER Carton stuffed with whatever is handy that will retain pellets in the carton. Completely portable as well.
Happy plinking,
Ray.

2 bits of board , threaded rod , nut & washers, and get some new carpet off cuts . You can compress the carpet to stop any pellet.
It catches 22cal pellets doing 850fps no problem.

A few folded newspapers in a cornflakes box does it for me.

Folded newspapers in a Special K box stop a low power pellet for me & the sticky tape holding the target releases nicely from the shiny cardboard.

THe HW-90 and FTS at 25 FPE went through 6+mm ply board at 20m and longer

Not sure a corn flakes box will do the job-- good for the fake cops badge but not sure it will do for a proper pellet stop.

Still saving for a really powerfull AG- si I better anti up and get made or make a proper pellet stop.

I'm actually trying to work out how to build daisy's idea but without using the threaded rod-- any suggestions on a way of making it with just timber and not the threaded rod??

thanks

Hi mate. I use a 800x400x400 metal tool box. (Bunnings). Cut out the bottom leaving around 50mm all round. Screw on 6mm rubber matting (Clark Rubber) to the bottom. This is now the front, targets pin on easily. Inside I used the same rubber matting fixed to timbers to hang 3 "curtains", This works a treat, and when you finish shooting, open back (lid) to get the pellets and turn them into fishing sinkers.
Cheers Rick

Nice one Rick that looks the goods, do the pellets make it through the 3 curtains?

Hi Stink, the pellets do hit the rear of the box, but all energy is bled off and they don't even dent the back of the box. Sound of pellets hitting is negligable, the gun is louder, the rubber does a great job.
AR used is Theoben Crusader .20

How about a nice tight bale of lucerne with the target attached to the front , could also double as a bunny attractant if placed right.
Regards
PS seen a mile of plasticine in BigW at Lismore the other day.
