seemed like a good idea at the time :?

Hey guys,
Ever had one of those brainiac moments where an idea comes to mind that you just have to try. Mine wasn't overly serious, I just thought that I would give the open sights a run on the Gamo CFX. I took the scope off and went for a short drive to some state forest not to far from here and thought I'll sight it in for about 20 meters. Large target, no worries.
It grouped consistantly enough for me to be satisfied so I then put up a post-it note, being the approximate size of a starling, mynor or rabbit skull and when I lined up I realised just how bloody hard it is for me to shoot small targets with open sights now. Mind you the Gamo sights are pretty nasty and very chunky. I managed to hit the post-it note a few times out of five shots, but very eratically. It just seemed that when I lined up, the target was engulfed by the sights. To counter act this I set the sight slighty higher and aimed at the base of the paper. This seemed to work well, but after all the stuffing around I came home with the thought to put the scope back on.
I think that sometimes I take things a little too much for granted. That was my lesson for the day. Today I'll re-mount the scope and return to sight it in again.
Happy hunting,
Pete.
