I’m often asked what’s a safe cleaner/ degreaser for airguns?
You need to avoid all the usual highly volatile ones not just for your airgun’s health but yours too
I have been using Bowden’s Own Orange Agent for a long time now and love it!
It smells nice and does everything I ask of it
Cleaning the action inside and out and the bore is a breeze with this stuff
Highly recommended!!!
You can get it at Supercheap Repco Autobarn etc
By the way all their car care products are terrific!

Re: Airgun Degreaser
One of my other passions is car detailing
I just love buying and trying new products
All the Bowden’s products work and all are made in Australia
They have terrific specials too at selected stores
The Orange Agent is marvellous
Most of those firearm degreasers are too harsh on airguns
I clean absolutely vile filthy airgun pistons spring guides ,receiver tubes etc easily with OA
It may come as a surprise that the highly praised and loved Beeman Cleaner / Degreaser was actually toilet cleaner!!
It was fabulous !

Re: Airgun Degreaser
Hi Lewis,
I know about the silicon oil hate due the fact it can migrate past the piston seal and then cause havoc.
I used to use your Beeman silicon oil, very little in my later HW 's without a hitch and since gone have bought Abbey silicon oil, haven't used it yet cause I haven't been shooting for ages, should I chuck it ?
What would you recommend for modern synthetic seals?
The Yanks, Gaylord, Pyramid and AOA still swear by silicon.
Also Knibbs and Chambers recommend Neatsfoot oil for leather springers but I have read on the contrary that being an animal by product over time will decompose dry out and ruin the leather seal.
What would you say is best for vintage leather seals, even after all these years and all the knowledge I have gained this is still one of those questions where there is no definitive answer.
Thanks for advice,
Australia's Honorable
Mr Beeman

Re: Airgun Degreaser
Hi Andrew
Like everything a little bit is probably OK
It’s when it gets overdone and as you say migrates to metal surfaces eg piston skirts that’s when irreparable damage occurs
You cannot believe the galling!
If I rebuild a springer I give a light wipe of moly on the sides of the synthetic seal and just rear of it on the piston
Keep it off the face!
For leather seals I use a drop of Abbey SM50 and Moly
That’s it
From then on I just use a drop of SM50 to keep the leather seal juicy
I use nothing on nylon seal guns until I rebuild them

Re: Airgun Degreaser
Oh that's great thank you.
I'll chuck the Abbey silicon 35 and get the SM 50.
Do you know who sells it here in OZ?
