As you know I picked up a HW77 (1983) in May of this year. It has since been custom tuned by my good self and she has a better shot cycle than any other HW that I have ever handled. Currently she shoots 11.6 FPE and is ideal for Field Target, which was what the HW77s excelled in during the 1980s.

In August of this year, when I was up for the Hornsby shoot, we visited Bill Wilson from Wilson Target Arms in Green point. Bill had a Gamo Olympic 10m target rifle in his stores (Yes, Gamo did use to make good rifles in those days albeit Walther LGR copies). Matt and I looked at it and informed Bill that the seals were knacked and recommended disposal as parts were no longer available. He concurred. I offered to buy the walnut target stock off him if the price were right. We reached an amicable agreement.
It made it way back to my work bench and stayed behind closed doors till about two weeks ago. Out came all the tools to reconfigure the inletting for a HW77 fit. After a week of measuring six times and cutting once, I'm pretty chuffed with the woodwork.
Looked a million bucks after the walnut was taken back and Sceney Oil applied.

Wow Geoff,
That's an awesome job you did.
You would have had to cut the cocking slot as well as re jig the inletting.
Which Sceney oil did you use, Tung or Linseed?
Such a nice piece of walnut too.
That will be an amazing shooter, very impressed, well done.

Thanks guys. Patience was definitely tested.
Andrew, Roger Vardy (Roger Vardy Wood Stocks in Porepunkah VIC) recommended that Sceney Weatherproof was the go. He uses it for all his Walnut Artistry. T'was a tricky job as the Gamo Olympic was a side lever with the wood thickness biased to the left. The cocking lever slots were actually the easiest bit to do. Router bits of the exact sizes were available at the green and red hardware warehouse,
Gavin, the Blue action fits as well if I remove the anti bear trap and action lug. I never ever thought that I would find something that would shoot smoother than Baby Blue but here she is. Having said that, I have accounted more bunnies with Blue than any of my other AR, best out to 62m She crept up to 12.3 fpe after the seals bedded in so I removed the steel washer and replaced it with a 0.5 mm PTFE film. Now shooting 11.7 fpe. Still a joy to hunt with. Thank you for allowing me to have custody of that Baby. ....best I could do with GinB no longer available.

A great job Geoff, it has turned out very well indeed
I've had the pleasure of shooting this rifle after its tuning (in its std HW stock) and it is simply beautiful to shoot. I'm guessing even nicer now with a bit more weight in it too.
I had concerns about a Gamo / HW cross, It seems I had no reason to worry

A Gamo action in a Winerack stock would have been a totally different animal.I had concerns about a Gamo / HW cross, It seems I had no reason to worry

.... you'd be better off just leaving it as a Gamo
