Details below
Hornsby Field Target Social comp - all Welcome
Date: Sat 13th June
Time: Arrive from 12:00 for a 1pm kickoff
Venue: North Sydney Smallbore and Air Rifle Club (part of Hornsby Rifle Range Complex, Rosamond St Hornsby)
Conduct of the day
We are running a layout that aligns with standard FT events but can be held in a small course (ie on the range rather than in the bush). Course layout is 5 different positions with a range of targets shot from each position at different ranges. Rifles will be chronoed into over/under 12ft-lbs to fit in with international classes. Shooters compete in teams of three where you take turns to shoot, score and time each other. This format was very successful for the May comp and went a long way to helping grow the skills of newer shooters as well as grow the bonds between the air rifle fraternity. As with last time, its a friendly match with participation and creation of interest as the main goal of the day but making it a little more competitive for the more keen shooters. There is also a practice session held this Sunday (7th Jun) from 12:30pm to 4pm for those interested in doing some extra training.
Location
Hornsby Smallbore and Air Rifle Club is an all weather outdoor 50m range with a covered firing point so the event can still proceed if the weather is poor. Address is Rosamond St Hornsby
Costs
Cost for the day is $25 to cover range expenses, wear and tear on the targets, and a post match BBQ.
Refreshments
The club will provide the venue, and a BBQ afterwards.
Tea and coffee making facilities on site.
Soft drinks and snacks are available for purchase.
Equipment required
You need to bring your own air rifle and pellets. The club has a small supply of RWS Meister Kugeln pellets for sale if needed and I will see if I can organise some pellets for sale.
The club also has a Scoped Break barrel air rifle for use
We have 15 targets of different styles as well as some spinners and paper targets for sighting in.

Hi guys,
Just one week to go before the Jun comp. Should be a good day.
The response via the club website has been quieter than normal but let me know who's keen to attend.
The more people we get, the better the day goes and the more interest the sport generates with sponsors and vendors. It's also a social comp run along normal FT guidelines with fun, friendly competition, coaching, and safety our top priorities. If you don't have your own gear, we
Attached a few photos from previous comps to whet your appetite.
Looking forward to seeing everyone on Sat for a 12:30 start.

Another great day out with good attendance (we had about 10, plus the staff). Good to see that each comp I've run has the same 5 regulars plus some new faces each time.
Set out a course of 15 targets at ranges from 10m - 40m and a section for chrono and siting in. Broke the crew into teams of three and let them manage their own conduct of the course. This approach appears to work very well and builds good cameraderie amongst the groups. Had a couple of brand new to field target shooters who did quite well and really enjoyed the day.
This types of first time positive experience is what I was really hoping to achieve as it helps grow interest in the sport. Even out dyed in the wool, 30 years of shooting, traditional 50m prone member has now expressed an interest in buying an FX after seeing the grouping Juzza's Royale could do without much effort.
Placings were 3rd - Nate, 2nd - Mattw975, 1st - Brad. I should also note that Brad was using the lowest powered rifle of the entire day and it was a pleasure to watch his smooth procedure for each shot. Something like settle - range - adjust focus - load - aim off - release shot - (and in most cases) grin when target was hit. Good drills that man!
Thanks all for coming and make a date for the next comp on Jul 18th.

yeap - was a cracker day out!!!
still some gremlins in the targets unfortuantely :\
but bit by bit we're getting there.
Chrony process worked well, its a bit tricky - but i'll be modding the lights next run to hopefully make it more reliable & consistent (& so i dont have to put my grubby hands over everyone's rifles!)
Thoughts on running parallel targets - high & low power:
- Low power up to 15-20fpe = gamo commercial
- High power >15-20fpe = spinners/equiv
Will be much easier than stuffing around & making larger heavy duty targets, plus much more simple mechanisms with no string to stuff around with!

Nate,
My Chrony acted the same until I put Arlec LED's from Bunnings on it. Hasn't missed a beat since. They were in the torch aisle in my local store ($10 each, with a built in, fold out hanging hook & magnet for alternative mounting).

To minimise the weight on the diffusers I bought some strip LED lights and stuck them on the underside. Hasn't missed a beat even in pitch black outside.

So, these are the little led lights that have the brown sticky stuff on the other side, I presume you are using them with air rifle testing, do they work with centre fire as well ??

Hi Camel, mine is an F1 chrony just like the ones you would use for powder burners. I assume they should work OK as the sensors rely on the light path being broken. Can't see why it wouldn't work for a CF. It a more reliable light source than waiting for the sun to come out and avoiding shadows. F1 actually sell lights for the unit if you want to part with hard earned $$$$.

Just bought these off ebay:
"Waterproof 5 SMD 5050 LED Module Light Bar"
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/371127765503 ... EBIDX%3AIT
wasnt sure if its better to put them BEHIND the white screen - so it diffuses or in front. we'll see i guess!
