I have only used digital night vision so can't comment on tubed or thermal.
I genuinely like the nitesite and prefer it over my other dedicated unit.
This because I don't have to remove scopes and can basically use it on any scope when needed.
I went for the nitesite viper over the other models as it was the cheapest. All of the nitesites are basically the same thing. The only parts that are different are the infared LEDs and the battery. I got around this by using an ir torch to effectively match the higher end units at a fraction of the price.
I'm yet to find a better combination for rabbit shooting. A shrouded pcp with nightvision is deadly.
The humble 22lr could not be used on any of the properties due to size and location issues.
Here are a few pics to show what my units look like on the same rifle.
