Hi Guys,

For those interested, below are details of the first Sydney Field Target competition being held at Hornsby Range, NSW

Spread the word & I hope to see you there :)

Cheers,

Matt W
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We have a date for the first Sydney Field target comp.

Date: Sat 28th March
Time: 12:00
Venue: North Sydney Smallbore and Air Rifle Club (part of Hornsby Rifle Range Complex, Rosamond St Hornsby)

Conduct of the day
As a first try with running a comp like this I am thinking we run it as a friendly match with participation and creation of interest as the main goal of the day. We will be using an all weather outdoor 50m range with a covered firing point so the event can still proceed if the weather is poor.

Costs
Cost for the day will be a small fee to cover range expenses and food but this first one will be a trial so it will not be expensive (thinking $5-$10 tops). I will clarify this soon.

Refreshments
The club will provide the venue, and a BBQ afterwards. There are also tea and coffee making facilities on site.

Equipment required
You need to bring your own air rifle and pellets. The club has one target air rifle for rental and a small supply of RWS Meister Kugeln pellets for sale if needed. To help build some momentum for this new shooting discipline, we will have an open category where you can use whatever calibre and air rifle type you like (I would prefer to not use very high powered rifles if possible to avoid damage to the targets).

I have 5 dropdown targets as a start but could use some additional ones to make up the numbers. The plan is to eventually build up to the full complement of 30 at a later date. In the meantime, if you have some targets you can bring along to bolster the numbers that would be great and will help to get the ball rolling. I am also looking at having some targets locally made rather than purchasing them from overseas so if you are interested in producing some locally made targets for a moderate fee, PM me and we can talk some more.

If you would like to attend the day, please emailenquiries@northsydneysmallbore.org.au with the following information.

Subject: Field target air rifle comp
Name
Age
Phone number
Licence holder or P650
Own equipment?

This will all be kept confidential and will allow me to get an idea of numbers.

That's about enough for now but I will be be posting further updates shortly.

Feel free to ask questions if needed. I'm also interested in other members who have attended field target comps who can offer some advice and assistance with the conduct of the day.

Thanks and looking forward to this.

I'm afraid it's a bit too much travel for me, but I can highly recommend the sport!

Now I understand that this is just cranking up, and may take a little more time with only 5 targets (when I shot at Wellington, I reckon they had 18 targets set up in 6 lanes), but they reset quickly, and you only use one target per lane at a time, so it shouldn't make a huge difference.

And it is good fun! A real challenge for range estimation and windage.

Good luck to everyone that can make it, and I look forward to hearing a report on the day. Take pics!

cheers, curan.

Well what a day had a ball, soon found out how much trigger control I have after shooting the shot gun for a while.
Started off with a briefing and licenced shooters led the way then helped P650 shooters with gear and coaching.
Very well run day and a lot of fun not easy, there was lots of Air rifles on display not as many target style as I would
have thought. There were a few high powered crackers and the weaker targets suffered a bit of damage.
Will I be doing it again? In a heart beat.
Cheers

There's actually a shoot on Easter Monday. However it looks like it could become a monthly fixture at Hornsby club.

It was nice to meet you Gary, it was a great day :)

Trying my darndest to get it off the ground but getting through the red tape is a chore. I have some pics from the organisers and will post them after Easter when I get the chance.
