Hi guys thought i might send a few pics through of where i shoot....the backyard

since it has been raining and generally shit weather i hvae taken to shooting from the comfort of inside shooting outside.

here is looking down from my back door the targets (cans on stakes, they rattle when hit) red dots roughly show placement

this is from under my carport rain water tank 30metres pellet trap 15 m



here is a target i just finished at 15 m (number of shoots recorded)



and heres what an .20 cal R7 can do to a can @ 45m

Great place you have there mate! how many acres are you on? 5?

just under ten, my property goes about 100m back into the rain forest. the road cuts through my property and over the other side i also have a permanent creek (Murray) running through my property which not in the photos.

it would be lewis except for the noise......they are too loud for the area. even the little r7 echos off the back hill. my neighbour tried out his new .22lr earlier and that noise level is too much for here even half that is too loud.

i love the idea of pcp, the ease of shooting, their power and looks but good relations with the neighbours is important for me.

will consider pcp if i able to secure large property for hunting, but frankly if i go that way i would more likely go to a firearm.
current guns allow maximum convenience since i can shoot anytime without any problems.

i too hope the rain buggers off

on pcp's , just a basic question , recharging with a hand pump , what sort of effort is involed , how many pumps to recharge from empty , scuba tank option would be out for me as nearest dive shop is about 80 km away ,and starting to think about one

Pumping a rifle is hard work.Personally,I'm not a big fan of pumps and really only recommend them as a secondary source of air not a primary.
I like SCUBA air best then compressor.My compressor,a Bauer,is magnificent!!!
Theoben do not recommend pumps at all.

Mate if you have to pump it up forget it, it really sux! I have a scuba and I get quite a few charges out of it if you pass your dive shop on a semi-regular basis for casual shooting you should be fine!

For the noise issue, I have been considering trying a box on a stand lined with ragged-edge blankets and rags, and a through hole big enough for scope and barrel axes, to act as a sound moderator. It would be legal, whereas a silencer would not be.

That would be good for fixed-lane range practice at least...

And you could put some cheese in front of your backstop for hunting .

I remember reading about an airshow that had a lot of complaints about how unsafe a helicopter giving joyflights over an urban area was. They put a good muffler on it, and the safety complaints stopped even though the operations kept going. Get to know your neighbours, let them know you are considerate of their comfort and safety, ask them to come over and have a cup of tea and see what is happening and have a go, and people will accept all kinds of stuff.

I shoot my little airgun in the garage - I get about 9m range, and try to keep a VERY unobtrusive profile on this activity.

thats a good idea about the box,
i have spoken with most of my neighbours and they are cool with it but have to get over and see just one more and they haven't said anything up to now, and hes the sort of bloke that would say something if there was a issue.

but more bloody rain, oh well

i can understand why you would want to keep your activity quiet if in suburbia.
