Hey guys, I've decided to rebuild an old Milbro model 70 series 79 that I purchased several years ago. It came from a deceased estate so I have no idea of it's history other than it looks like it was made in 1976.

The trigger was woeful but I managed to give it a work over and now it's almost perfect. I managed to get the piston seal, spring and breech seal ordered from overseas so I'm hoping they'll be here in a week or so.

I noticed that the original breech seal is listed as being made of leather but the one in my rifle is rubber, so I'm assuming someone has worked it over before. There was a couple of plastic shims underneath the rubber so I'm assuming they've used them to make the seal a correct fit.

I'm wondering if there's anything else that might need attention when doing a rebuild? (I'm not really an airgun person so its all new to me).

Also what sort of grease and oil should I be using? I've heard that the leather needs to be soaked in a silicone oil and that I should be using a "moly" grease for the piston? Are there any suitable substitutes for these available in Aussie?

The moly grease you are looking for needs to have a very high moly content (stuff like castrol LMM is not suitable as the moly content is not high enough), if I were you I'd just order some of this http://www.gunspares.co.uk/shopdisplayp ... es&sppp=10 that way you know you've got the right stuff.

or get the grease from lewis...

Red bearing grease for the spring, moly grease for the metal to metal contacts like where the piston touches the compression tube walls. Also good for barrel hinge.

You need bugger all in quantity to do a rebuild, I'd hit up a workshop for the two greases, a film canister of each is heaps. They'd probably give you some for nothing and any decent workshop should have them.

All the mystical muds/tars are likely nothing more than rebranded/repackaged bulk lubes sold at a premium. JMHO

Forget silicone oil of any sort. Asking for trouble. It galls metal to metal if it ends up in the wrong spot, which it has a habit of doing.

I can send you some Maccari moly for the piston seal and skirt and breech jaws. And some spring tar for the spring to dampen vibration. I have enough here to do 20 guns.

It really needs fark all in the way of lubes and JM lube is IMO the only way to go. JM has been doing this since the 70's - forget all the Johnny Come Lately's.
