I have a couple of spring air rifles and have had my appetite wetted by the utube clips of the long range shooting.
So basicly need to know what would be a top end pellet gun available in Aus would not worry if it was semi auto.
My wife is holidaying for 7 weeks so budget is not a big problem.

Theres alot of options out there,the biggest being spring air or pre-charged.??
Once you shoot a quality air rifle and see what they are capable of you will be impressed.
I believe everyone should have a nice top quality springer first and then progress to PCP.
Do some research and come back here with ideas and we can sort you from there.

Are we talking long range shooting as in targets (paper, steel etc) or game?

Either way my personal opinion is toward PCP purely because they are easier to shoot than springers, especially at longer ranges. If shooting at game then you owe it to your target species to have as much accuracy as possible from both the inherrent accuracy of the gun and the ability of the shooter to shoot it, thus eliminating, as much as possible, the risk of wounding game. Springers require a lot more "technique" to shoot accurately than do PCPs (generally speaking). Having said that a couple of good quality springers in the cupboard is a must for everyone, and a springer that shoots like stink is far better than a PCP that can't hit the broard side of a barn. JMHO

Well I have almost made my decission can anyone tell me why I shouldn't buy a FX Revolution? All honest opinions would be appriciated.

I am told by a friend who has a Revolution .22 that they are a good gun over all, but are prone to foul up with lead dust after some heavy shooting which can affect the guns reliability. So if you buy one be prepared to be fussy with its servicing and all will be well. Other than that he has no complaints.

That would concern me. Lead is a toxic heavy metal dangerous to humans in dust form. In the old days of 'hot metal' in my old profession of the Printing trade, lead poisoning from aspirated lead dust was a serious problem. It is also well known on indoor firing ranges where special extractor ventilation systems are now often installed. During the firing cycle of this air rifle, if it is producing lead dust so close to your face, you are definitely inhaling it without doubt. (I was also a qualified registered nurse at another time in my life.) I would be a bit circumspect about using such an air rifle where lead dust production was a known fact.

My pick of the currently available rifles would be either a Theoben Rapid in one of its forms from Potter Firearms or an FX Cyclone or FX Royale (Hermanns). Calibre .22 and get JSB Exact 18.1 gr and 15.9 gr pellets from Potters'. ... Unfortunately my wonderful BSA Hornets are no longer available, nor is the Excalibre (made by FX) which I would claim has shot more sub MOA 100 yards 5 shot groups in good conditions than any other air rifle in the world (many dozens of such groups). The FX Cyclone should be its equal and with instant 3 stage adjustments of velocity. ...... The ideal velocity is 850 to 920 fps and all these rifles will shoot in that bracket with those pellets. ........... Kind regards, Harry.

Page 2 shows a Hornet for $775. It's a .22 as well. I haven't seen it personally, but if it's anything like my .177, well, it's a bargain.

A bit of a update Hermans are telling my LGS that the FX Revolutions are in customs.
This is the longest I have kept $2500 in my pocket but my pockets have holes burnt in them every where.
