A budget target shooting trainer........part #1

Post by curan »

Hello all.

This will be a bit of a long post, but I thought some of you might be interested in a budget training rig I built for myself, and a story on how to build your own (should you wish)..........

I decided I needed more practice, and the answer would be a way to practice my offhand technique without actually having to go to the range and use a firearm.

The answer came in a toy gun on ebay for less than $15. Now don’t laugh too hard until you read what I wanted it for………..

I ordered one and waited the 2 weeks until it arrived. The toy works fine (for what it is), but it was the internals I was after.

It came apart by removing a series of tiny Phillips head screws, and splitting the top slide of the pistol.

I cut the wires to the switch at the front of the hand grip, and to the led shown just under the orange laser module housing. This is just a blue led light. It was not required for the project.
The switch I was interested in is the one at the top left corner of the frame, as it activates the laser module for a half second pulse.

I also need a trigger so that was removed, and the blue screw housing shown just above the circuit board in the picture was the right size for the trigger pivot, so it was broken away and cleaned up.
A hole was drilled through the orange battery box cover, and the pin pushed in (light press).

And the story will continue in part #2..........
