Rimfire silhouette ?? - Optics

I know its a little off topic but I know there is a wealth of knowledge here on AR silhouette and I'm guessing that some would shoot rimfire and center fire.
I'm looking at getting into Rimfire Silhouette. I had a brief taste a few years ago using a springer AR and had a great time. Due to a significant change in circumstances i could not persue it further.
Any how, circusmstance are more agreeable now , and I have a bit of $ and time to spend (and its too cold for kayak fishing). I'm looking at a CZ452 silhouette, as a hunter class rifle.
Just would like to know some scope options (appart from the Leuopold VX111 6-20 EFR).
Not sure if i should go all out yet and would like some slightly lower priced options.
Also can any one inform me when Silhouette is shot at Silverdale
Cheers

The CZ silhouette is good gun I used it in both classes until I got a Krico. I have a 1979 model Leuopld fix 10 fine cross hairs on the CZ and a Weaver V16 target dot on the Krico . I do like the dot bot would like it a bit bigger . Get a scope with a AO and mark the animal distances on the adjuster ring as the marked distances can be well out.
I an thinking of going back to the CZ and selling the Krico as it hasn't help me with my shooting even tho it fells and fits better then the CZ.

The Weaver T's are good scopes and have a reputation for tracking very well. It's worth getting a decent scope, especially for silhouette because the whole game centers around repeatable scope settings. In fact, a good scope is more important than a good rifle as you don't need bench rest accuracy for silhouette but you need to be able to trust your scope adjustments.
The Leupold, as you know, rules the roost for silhouette and is very popular but I have used Simmons 44mag 6.5-20's on both air and rimfire silhouette rifles and they are brilliant scopes but now very hard to get as they are discontinued. Bushnell 6-24X 4200's are great scopes for silhouette too, I also have an 8-32X which has optics on par with the Leupolds and proven reliability with scope adjustments. I've seen Bushnell Trophy 6-18x as well, but personally I don't rate these scopes at all as the glass flares out at the slightest hint of sunshine, but if you can get one cheap it will do a good job too.
The CZ's are great rifles for the price, I shot an American for hunter and heavy class for ages and shot well with it but the stock was not the best for offhand. The CZ Silhouette feels a little better because of the cheek piece and is very similar to the Anschutz 1712 stock in it's shape and the nice thing is you can shoot the one rifle for both standard and hunter class.
I just got a Sako Finnfire for my next silhouette rifle, arrives this coming week so very keen to run some ammo through and see how it shoots.
For more scope ideas check out the steelchickens.com forum, there is a whole section on scopes. I'm sure you will find some recommendations in there that fit your budget. Also, don't rule out buying a scope from the US as you will pay substantially less for the same scope in the US (even though the $$ has slipped of late).

Does that mean your Anschutz FWT is up for sale JD??!!??
Im still reeling over passing up on the last one Nioa had in stock
Hey Little,
Everyone has pretty much already summed up what I was going to say
All I can add is how impressed I have been with the Sightron 6-24 Silhouette.
They are damn pricey here in Aust but can be had for good $ from the States.
Ummm, yeah I really rate them, great glass, no glare, solid tracking love the larger dot reticle....
Can point you towards some online stores in the states who are a pleasure to deal with if you like.
Cheers,
Ben.

Buy the best you can afford, other than quality optics it is also an advantage for the scope to have more than 9 minutes elevation per revolution of the knob, I have seen so many people come unstuck because they needed more than a full turn from chickens to rams and got confused, it usually only happens when it matters.
But you already knew the answer when you said except for Leupold 6.5-20, you only have to buy it once.

Sorry, but like you I dont have a 1712 either
Our club has a bunch of them, but unfortunately I'm not one of the lucky ones. They are a nice rifle for the job that's for sure. I've actually only just got back to shooting rimfire silhouette with the sako. The gun shoots lights out and is by far the most accurate rifle I have owned. I am finding it a little light in the muzzle and in general for the job though so I'm probably going to add some lead to the stock to give it more heft.
I tried some high sportsmatch mounts the other night but think I'll have to go back to the sako rings I had (equivalent to sportsmatch mediums) as I'm finding I'm getting a really undesireable muzzle flip which I'm putting down to less solid check weld. I can't see the shots fall, i know where I break them but normally I can see where they hit but with the high scope mounts I'm losing the whole sight picture on the muzzle flip.
I may end up selling the Sako sometime in the future. A drop in Lilja Sundberg taper might fix the light muzzle problem but if I do that I'd probably just stretch for the wooden stocked 1712.
Cheers, JD

Hey JD,
Oh I have a 1712 but it is the older wood model with the wing safety. Superb rifle, love it to bits... just wish it could legally wear the McMillan stock!
Like you I am just about to get back into the silhouette in earnest. The only niggle I have with the 1712 is the 2 pound trigger pull in normal matches, is I dont stay 100%
on the ball I can slip into the trap of pulling shots to the right. I went with the Annie so I would have that familiarity factor of the same rifle between Standard and Hunter class
matches, but I dont want to be adjusting the trigger between them... the only solution is to buy a second 1712 hey
Yeas that does sound like a problem with the higher mounts, I have been using BKL 257s like a true fan boy.... they are high enough to allow for a solid target stance to be comfortable but
still allow for a reasonable cheek weld. Sighting your fall of shot is really important I reckon, especially if your spotter is one of those types that will say "just missed!" instead of admitting they didnt actually see exactly where the shot fell LOL
Thats another point in favour of the Sightron in keeping with thw threads topic, on a reasonable day I can pretty much make out the slugs flight path to the target! That sight just makes me happy on the inside! My eyes are still reasonable I guess but Im sure it speaks volumes for the quality of Sightrons glass...
Cheers,
Det.
