i generaly rest my elbow on the ledge and use an open palm to support the gun, lightly place butt into shoulder and don't rest my cheek too heavily on the stock.
am waiting to see if 97 arrives today....but likely to be early next week...also have 20 tins of pellets on teh way as well

when i am shooting i usaully kneel down left elbow on top of raised left knee and plam support fore end , but to sight up i need to place my head further back so i don't look down to the open sight ( which makes me look over top of the rim om my glasses ), if i move head back i get a clean sight picture ,
