HW97K, which scope?

Post by Ackley Improved »

Guys.. I am thinking of buying a HW97K in .177 for a plinker/bird gun. Got to handle one and it felt real nice.

Do any of you have any experience with them?

Also, what is a great scope to suit this rifle? I do not like the crap stuff.... but then its only a air rifle right  ????

Looking around that 4-12X area.

Cheers

Mate love the G&R on my R9, 3-12 AO etc it has a duplex reticle with two extra widths in reticle steps so you can actually hold over almost like mill dot, they also came with a mildot.

The Hawke scopes seem to have a good name in the Airgun world.

AI- The G&R would be an excellent choice, but not sure of the availability.??
The HW97 are a great rifle and shoulder very well, I had one in .20cal and it was dynamite on flying ferals.
Generally speaking AR are not used for long distance and the range of scopes reflects that in magnification and qlty.
Now- I can sell you a good HW80 in .177

Don't you guys find the FOV of the G&R scope severely lacking?

GriMo has one and compared to even my Simmons White Tail Classic 4.5-14x40 its FOV is not good IMHO.
GriMo agrees with me but it could be just us. I dunno.

Mate straight shooters has some great info:
http://www.straightshooters.com/documen ... scope.html
http://www.straightshooters.com/navagat ... heavyscope

They list things such as a bushnell 3200 and 4200 as ones that can handle heavy recoil etc.

Have a read and pick which ones you like.

Cheers.

I suppose so ... but for what its intended I have no qualms with it. I've got the 3-12x mounted on my Beeman HW97K.

I love the Bushnell Elite scopes, I'd probably replace the G&R scope with an Elite 3200 on my R9... if it wasn't so much more expensive.
