Pellets aint pellets.!!!

Post by native hunter »

G"day All
Had this discussion with many a airgun nut at many different ranges and most all seem to say that many pellets are the same just named different.
Well I think that is bullshit and if you try two similiar pellets from different companies you will see they fire different and have very slight differences.
Even pellet batches from the same company can and will fire/group different.
I have found a chart that was put together by a bloke but cant save it and get it up here but i will keep trying and you can see the comparison on most popular calibres and brands.
Regards
I will e-mail you the list if you like.
I dont know how to paste or put a link in.

Thats a good comparison table but a bit hard to read as the calibres are mixed and the brands are missing from many.
The table I found was split into 3 calibres and was in weight order with type and brand.
I'm still trying to get it here.

You're right Damien.I love it when a smartass stocks up on the 'H&N equivalent' or what his 'research' has identified as 'the same as' a certain Beeman pellet, only to find that it isn't.Not just in quality but also sometimes in shape, weight, fit, dimensions etc.
I see those cross reference charts and for the most part, find them highly amusing.

The truth? Not always.Robert Beeman always told me that companies like H&N make up to four grades of pellets.Robert always insisted on the very best ones for the Beeman tins.
An example of three similar pellets existed in the H&N produced Beeman pellets, the Laser Sport,Match and Finale Match. They all look the same, even weigh around the same but they don't shoot the same.Laser Sport was one third the price of FM and half the price of Match. You can see the differences pretty dramatically through a chronograph and on targets.
Another good example is the Baracuda/Kodiak and Field Target/FTS comparison.I got sick of the "H&N equivalents' coming back for credit on the the Beeman pellets.I have boxes of H&N pellets that nobody wants.
I concede that those cross reference charts are interesting.

I'm confused
Lewis,
are you saying that the different brands of pellets are all made in the same factory but Beeman take the very best ones and leave the rest for other brands to use? :? :?

No,I'm not saying that at all. When Robert and Tosh Beeman started Beeman Precision Airguns in 1972,they soon found the best brands like Weihrauch,Feinwerkbau,Webley,H&N,Hakko etc and began promoting them.Robert is a marketing genius with a real love for airguns and an eye for quality.
He successfully convinced the Germans that there was a huge market for adult airguns etc in the USA and he backed it up with orders.
The Germans were very happy with the business and had never achieved numbers like that before.Beeman's had so much pull they got the quality they wanted and soon started ordering in their own packaging.
Customers knew that if it was branded Beeman,it was the very best version, grade and most powerful in the case of airguns.Often,Beeman airguns wore special Beeman designed stocks and had features the regular production did not have.

Dennis.
I tried to attach Hilly's original Excel spreadsheet but it didn't seem to work. So...alternatively I have posted it on my webspace at http://users.tpg.com.au/beebox/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Also there, you will find some rabbit inspection stuff that may be of interest.
