A budget target shooting trainer........part #2

Post by curan »

okay, the story continues............

The trigger was slipped onto the pivot, and the microswitch from the top left of the frame (mentioned previously) was superglued into position. A screw into the pivot swelled it to a nice fit.

I fitted a rubber band to hold the trigger across, but found it wasn’t required after careful trimming of the plastic rib the switch is glued against. The right side half of the backing plate was cut off after the above photo was taken. A piece of the slide mechanism of the toy pistol was the right size to cut a ring from, which then pressed over the pivot to retain the trigger on the pin.

Next came creating the battery box. The metal contacts can be slid out of the battery housing, and the housing was cut from the frame handle. The contacts were then slipped back in and a new battery box was born.

The laser dot was about 2 cm in diameter at 10m, and I wanted it to be at least half of that. The answer was to cut a disc out of a lid from a PET bottle, and drill a 1mm hole in it. The disc was trimmed (very roughly) to fit inside the orange collar that went onto the front of the orange laser module housing.

The module and collar were then joined by a tube of paper (about 80mm long) held together with sticky tape. The laser dot was now halved at 10m.

Non- required wires were cut away, with the exception of the second laser activation microswitch. This gives a longer laser pulse (2 seconds?) than the switch I glued to the trigger, but I wanted the longer pulse to assist in setting the laser up in the rifle stock.

I mounted a 1 piece scope mount (cheap and nasty from ebay) with a single wood screw through the guts onto a 42mm x 10mm piece of pine. This is the cover for the rifle stock. The reason for 1 wood screw is to allow twisting of the mount to align it, and then a bead of liquid nails will finally lock it. The scope will be at midrange on the turrets while this happens.
