used 300 bar scuba tank

Hi All,
I'm in the market for a used 300 bar scuba tank. My local dive shop bloke said 'they are like hens teeth' I found one on Ebay but it was last tested in 1997 and it's in QLD. If anyone has one they don't need or knows where I can get one I would appreciate a heads-up.

I have an "in" at a dive shop in Melbourne- but thats no good if you are in NSW

Also what budget do you have to spend?
What tank size do you want?
is it for Airgun use only and can be stamped industrial non scuba or do you want it "in test" as well??

The dive shop guy is very right on used 300 bar scuba tanks,
I spent most of 2008 looking for a used 10 or 12 litre 300 bar tank for no result.
Wound up having to buy a new 10 litre (Only size available new in OZ in Nov last year).
If you are serious about a 300 bar tank check out that one in Qld it is probably a steel unit which is what you need,so it should test out ok.
Other than that it will have to be new. Best price I could do here in SA was $720.00 and it was supplied from WA.

I'm in Melbourne (I sent you a PM back in Jan- did you get it?). The tank is only intended for airgun use although it would be nice to be able to sell it as a scuba tank later if I needed to. I was hoping to spend about $300, but that is looking a bit optimistic now. I don't mind what size as long as I can get a few good fills out of it.

BTW the box on the left says I have a 177, which I don't. I can't work out how to change it. Does anyone know how?

The part under your name is just a forum activity indicator... it changes with the amount of posts you do.

I regard to test etc for scuba tanks,it does not matter if you use the tank for airguns only, you don,t have to worry about declaring that you do that. The main thing is that the tank is tested in the the normal way each year for underwater use. So as long as the tank is maintained in a manner that keeps it in good order there is no reason for it not to be sold as a diving tank when you have finished with it.
I traded my original 232 bar tank (Tested yearly) on the 300 bar tank I bought and there was no problems with the trade in.

Thanks Ray. I've found a used 6L 300BAR breathing apparatus cylinder for $200. The calaculator in the link says I should get 24 fills to 205BAR. That seems like plenty.

I have a 300bar 100 cubic foot (10 or 12L, I forget) scuba tank that I'm not using anymore. It's located in Devonport, Tasmania but I'm sure it could get across the straight for not too much money but I think they are forced to go by courier as Australia Post wont handle them. The tank was bought brand new for airgun use, has never been under water and should still be well in hydro but I;ll double check what the actual date was when it was done.

If you'd like to look into it further send me a PM and I can begin to start looking at freight prices etc. Just be aware that I'm living in the US at the moment so the tank is with my parents in Tasmania so I'd need to chat to them about packaging it up and getting prices etc. For references I'm sure Tasco or Ramslammer and a few others can vouch for me, just mention Kitty

Well worth it to get the big 300Bar bottle, you'll get way more fills. FWIW it costs the same to fill a 300bar tank as it does to fill at 207 or 232 bar tank and you will get WAY more fills. I'd never even bother with anything under 300bar these days. I have a carbon fibre 4500psi(300bar) tank here in the US and it's awesome, lots of fills but my one back in Australia is just sitting there. Anyway let me know. I'd probably let it go for $400 plus freight as I'm not sure if I'll be shooting PCP air rifles when I get back to Oz.

thanks for the offer. I'll mull it over, but I think I have settled on the 6L tank. The main reason being that a breathing apparatus tank only needs to be tested every 5 years (in VIC anyway) whereas a scuba tank has to be done annually. That's a saving of about $35 a year.
