New Varmint Rifle!
Here is the 6.5X47L. Rifle info below..
Surgeon action
McMillan fully adj. A5 in desert camo
Lilja 3 groove at 26", HV contour
Jewell with safety
Badger rings
Badger M5 metal
S&B 5-25 PII milrad
Harris notched leg with Podloc
TAB Elite sling
USO level
ACI indicator
60 rounds through total, and first impressions its a hummer. Very very pleased. an it out to 1034m today. Load was a littel slower than expected, 2209 41.1grains, 123L 2882fps. 5 shots over the chrony yielded a difference of 11fps.
Interesting using the PDA with Exbal, Kestrel meter and Swaro rangfinder was able to make some first round hits at some great distances. Wind was there, not harsh but consistant. Forst round hits at 685m, 732m, and the best of all 889m. For the 1034m shot it took 3 shots before hit, but targets were small. Out to 900m the PDA was very very close, but at the 1034m it was low. Shooting across to another ridge so wind could have been a lot different too.
Seeing the potential, would would take a shot at a bunny at 800m no problem, and thats what is happening next week.
I will be shooting this rifle at the 500m Fly this weekend.... off bipods with the 25X scope. Always wanted too to see what score I could get! Also increased the load too.
Built by Shane of course!
Cheers

Re: New Varmint Rifle!
Nice rig.
I found 2208 gave me better velocities than 2209 with the 123gn scenar. SD was in the teens. I also tried RL15, but it was no better than 2209 - and harder to get.
38.5gn of 2208 delivers around 3000fps out of a 24in barrel, 2800fps in a 20in barrel.

Re: New Varmint Rifle!
Could have gone Reloader 15 or 2208, but sticking with 2209. Will be running it out of two rifles so thats the reason. Accuracy is superb, very low ES and SD... not to fussed at the velocity race!!!
As long as I am over 2900fps I'm happy!!!
Cheers

Hmmmmm very nice......................carefull you dont get pulled over by the police in the datto whilst wearing the Gillie suit when heading out for the rabbits .......................just taking the piss,I think that looks the goods and should be a shooter.
Will be interesting to see your results with it on the weekend,on another note I was leaving work late this arvo and when turning onto the highway I noticed a dark green late model dunnydoor station wagon heading south with BRT number plates Hmmmmmmm I wonder or just a coincidence.
Regards Chris.

Re: New Varmint Rifle!
You certainly get nice rifles built AI.
Good luck at Canberra.
Unfortunately I won't be over to try out the dasher due to work comitments.
The bunnies will be in serious danger when you get to blood her.
Cheers,
Macca

You and Shane have done it again AI. That is a very nice rifle. I have almost arrived at the 6.5x47 Lapua being my next build. I need a stock like that too!

Re: New Varmint Rifle!
Hmmm... Price.... I am not to sure as things just add up on the way, but at a guess this rifle would have to be 9-10k, due to the S&B which is half the price!
I can thank Nightforce Australia for the S&B. Had a 5.5-22 NXS on order, but sick of lying and bullshit on delivery dates (told 2 weeks, 4 months later no scope), got my money back and bought the S&B! Best move I made, the scope is just perfect!
On the Dato 1600, guys if you know of any sitting around or still being driven that live close to you, granny spec is fine, get a ph number. I am after another one!!!! Dont ask!!
Macca, I cant believe you are working for teh Fly... thought I would be seeing the little Banger having a good crack!!!
Cheers
