Well ive decided i need one rifle....thats it need to sell the other 3 first but thats my problem! Which of these two would you choose
- Savage model 12 .22-250 (1:9)
- Savage model 12 .204 (standard twist)
Foxes, rabbits and hares are the game and im happy to have a crack at bunnies all the way out to 600 yards but if i miss i dont care its the red coats i cant afford to miss and i will only really ever have a go at them out to 300 yards. Soo with this in mind would a 75gr amax out of the 22-250 be a little better at that distance than say a 40gr vmax out of the 204?
Ive had both before and really loved both rounds im not overally worried either way just looking for some food for thought also in a heavy varminter with a scope with a bit of x56 glass could you see the shot out of the 22-250 by any chance???
Cheers
dave

Yeah i would go with the 250 as well. The 204 seems to be a great varmint round, but if you want to shoot anything bigger than foxes ie goats and the odd pig, then the 250 will do it. With that twist you should be able to shoot the 75gr amax or at least 75 or 77HPBT bullets. You will find the 55gr ballistic tips very explosive in the 9 twist. 60gr ballistic tips might be very good too. And there is also a 65gr sierra gameking which might hold together a bit more but it has a pretty good BC for longer range shots. Im using the 69gr nosler custom competition HPBT and its a good bullet too. Sometimes they zing through foxes if I hit the stomach area, but it still bowls them over real nice.

Dosnt matter just get a Savage Model 12 then live happily ever after, took my 243 out last night and with 60grn Taipan HP's shot a 5 shotter of .326 and three other groups in the .4's
But id go with the 250.
