Ive been wanting a target rifle for a while and honestly couldnt be bothered with going through the hoops of licensing another barreled action in WA. Since I shoot a 22BRX at varmints and also have done at the range out of a thumbhole varmint stock, I decided to get a target stock and go from there. Thanks must be given to albow for making a nice stock that I can use for casual F open events at my range. I finally started inletting this afternoon and its at the point now where it needs a couple of pillars turned up and the bedding compound mixed up and the action bedded properly and while I do that I will also get a trigger guard made up. Then its time to get some fiberglass bits and pieces and fix where I had to trim to let all the levers and bolt handle sit. Following that a good 8 twist barrel finished at 30 inches and it will be time to get shootin. Im also getting the current 22BRX 1:10 twist barrel rechambered to straight 22BR so I can fireform all my brass in it before shooting in the 1:8. It will also be used as a varmint barrel with 55-60gr ballistic tips if I want to take it out varminting.
The mobile phone pics dont do it justice but I dont think Ive ever seen a howa look so flash!
Yeah Ive got a caldwell rock BR- its no farley or SEB but it does the job for me. Ive just ordered a protektor bag from sinclairs plus a set of the burris signature zee 30mm rings with 10MOA inserts. I cant find a 20MOA rail for a howa unless I go for a ken farrell rail but for what the rings cost, I will be able to reach out to 700m with the scope, maybe further with the reticle on this scope.
Paz, no mate its at the LGS im a bit of a regular so they didnt mind me doing it. I spend a bit of time helping out around the shop when i can and fitting scopes/cleaning customers guns etc.
Looks like it is coming up a treat should look tops once finished.
With the Zee rings put the inserts in opposite each other so that you have +10 on the bottom in the back ring and a -10 on the bottom in your front ring giving an overall of 20 across the rings and will save the rail.
Of course! Here I was thinking I needed the +20 inserts but the kit comes with +/- 10 inserts so thats easy. The rings are very expensive at the shop here and sinclairs has them cheap so thats why I got them. Now all I need is this 8 twist barrel!
Yes its been given a basic true job and got the firing pin shimmed. On this rifle it is a single shot and ive milled it out so I can throw a round in then the bolt will push it up the ramp no worries. I still have the bottom internal mag system for another stock if I want to swap it out. While you cant get the go fast bits like a rem action, its fairly similar- two lugs and you can get timney triggers which are good enough. Its a budget and social f open rig that wont kill your credit card.
