Picked up a Steyr SSG 69 off used guns in .308 as i need a long range rabbit buster & dont want to wear out the barrel in my comp gun.
i want to get it rebarreled in 6mm BR but im pretty sure the barrels are pressed fitted & i will have to get threads cut in the action to accept the new barrel..

has anyone on here ever had a new barrel fitted to a Steyr ?

& im also crossing my fingers that the mag will feed the 6mm BR case.

So you're the guy who snagged the SSG bargain at under 1K...

What I would do is cut the barrel off just in front of the receiver. Then internally thread the receiver. This way when you have to rebarrel the gun it ends up being just like doing any other rifle.

You could ask Shane or your preferred smith if he could do this work for you. It has most definitely been done before.

Yeah Rath i couldnt buy it fast enough  ....& i Shane is my first choice for a smith.

im pretty sure its a rear locking action (is still on its way here) & thought some one on here might have had the same thing done.

All you need now is a Khales ZF84 to match.

Try contacting Andrew (SSG04A1) at https://www.steyr.com.au/forum.php He also works at Qld Gun Exchange most weekends.

He has an unnatural addiction to Steyrs and if he doesn't have the answer, he'll more than likely know someone who does.
