New Remington the allrounder
Like many of us here i have too many rifle's, one for this one for that etc.etc all are nice gear but not top end.
I like shooting F Class and have been using my purpose built 6 BR it shoots very well but at 18 pounds and with a Weaver 36 Scope it's limited to Bench rest and Fclass.
SSAA Field rifle i use my Tikka M55 .222 again it shoot well but could do with a new barrel the box mags on my Tikka has never feed very well in Rapid fire
Spotlighting I seem to take them all .222's .17 Rem's .17 HMR's .223's etc,etc.
I Decided to set about building a rifle that would cover the three shoot's i like doing.
I bought a Remington VSSF in .223 found a Gun smith and got him started building my new rifle.
Lawton .223 Match chamber 26' 7.5 twist with 8 flutes.
Action true
Alloy Bolt shroud
David Tubb speedlok firing pin and spring
Bushed firing pin hole in bolt
Jewell HVR Trigger
Bedded action
20 MOA Rail
Seekins Precision Rings
Nightforce NXS 8-32-56.
Rail in stock for Bipod
BBL has just been run in last Thursday at the full bore range.
While running in i was also getting a Zero at 300 Yards . My Friend and a very good Fclass shooter put down a 3 shot group at 300 yards that went 10mm CtC. My 5 shot group was just under 50mm so i have a bit more to learn
My Load on the day was Lapua cases, Rem primer 80 Grain AMAX, 25 Grain of 2208.
So everyting has worked out very well. I now have a rifle i can shoot F Class, Makes weight for SSAA Field rifle and a great accurate spotlighting rifle.

Hi Ned.
Yes that's Bendigo and yes Again it's Wild Bill. Bill has been a great help with my shooting..
I was going to shoot today but now have to go Castlemaine way to look at a Job so i might end up having a shot down there while i'm in the area

Re: New Remington the allrounder
Fantastic project Chris. Thanks for sharing. Apart from the rail, is the stock the standard VSSF HS Precision?
Cheers, Jason.

Re: New Remington the allrounder
The Mag box has been reworked to take the 80 Grain Amax.
I'm going to use the 80 Grain AMAX for everything Fclass,Field rifle ,spotlighting. I'm all for one load for one rifle rather than elevation and windage changes with each projectile.

Re: New Remington the allrounder
Hi Sam.
I have both but like the Bi Pod better for laying down. If i was using a open rifle and shooting for sheep stations i might use the stand as i think it helps accuracy but for me it's less gear i'm carting up to the line so i like it.
Regards
Chris

Re: New Remington the allrounder
Just a update on my new rifle. The 80 grain A Max is a great long range pill just so good in the wind . I never thought a .223 could be so accurate for long range bunny busting. Knowing my zero's and using a range finder rabbits to 350m are not hard targets most have been head shot. Over 350m head shooting is hard. I found a great spot at the property i shoot at last weekend and shot rabbits out to around 420m with three blinders just on and around the 480m mark.. Strike rate is a lot lower at anything 0ver 400m as the wind play's havoc and elevation is aroun 4-5 MOA from my 300m zero.. Tonight i'm going out and try and crack 500m.
Regards
Chris
