22 lr To 22 WMR

Hi guys

How much longer is a 22 wmr from a 22 lr, is it possible too turn a 22 lr into a 22 wmr.

Have read a similar question on here or another forum
22WMR uses .223 or .224 bullet, 22LR uses .22.
22LR barrels have tighter bores, the lead bullets squeeze down easily and jacketed bullets don't.

wouldnt be worth spending the time or money on it would it be just as easy to go buy one

Bore diameter is wrong as others have said.

Action length and magazine length all wrong too - you'd need to open up the action for a longer magazine even if the bolt throw was long enough, then more $$$ sorting out magzine latching etc, new magazines as well.

When a new Marlin can be had for $400 you see the futility.....

If you wanted to change cal's the only thing that you could do would be to put a .17HMR2 barrel on the action and the rest of the bits would fit. Again pretty pricey.

I have a Greener Martini take-down that started off as a 22 RF. barrel was shagged when it got it
Had it rebarrelled with a BSA 22 Martini barrel, and later had it rechambered (and extractor modified) to 22 Mag

The soft .224 dia Mag projectiles will swage down and go though a .220 dia bore no drama.

About 30 odd years ago, one of the Aussie gunwriters of the time (not sure of his name.... John Hill possibly?) wrote an interesting article on how he rechambered and modified the action of a BSA Sportsman 15? (bolt action with a tube magazine) from 22 rf to 22 Mag

Was in either Sporting Shooter or the Journal iirc late 70s

I can remember reading a similar article early 80's would of been in Sporting Shooter. From memory it was on a single shot so no feed dramas. Chamber was cut with a home made reamer if I remember correctly.
So it can be done as for the accuracy of the projects I have know idea.
