Re-barreling 22/250

Post by doidge5781 »

Im looking to build a new rifle on the 22/250 rem 700 i have and wanting a bigger calibre at the same time i was wondering if it was possible to go bigger any suggestions keep in mind i do not not handload so would need to be commercially available. Should i do it this way or sell or swap my action for a bigger one what is the biggest round that will fit in my action? Any help greatly appreciated thanx

What do you mean by 'biggest round'? You could use a 22/250 based short-action to rebuild as a 338Federal/358Win. Biggest (fastest?) varmint calibre ... probably a 220Swift with commercial availability.

the boltface fits the 308 family so Con has probably covered your biggest options.

What do wanna shoot with it. 243, 260 7-08 308 338fed, you've got a lot of game covered there

Ideally i was wanting to go .308 if i could without purchasing a new rifle and by the replies it looks like i can i want it mainly for long range work on medium to large game and maybe a little target work as time in the bush is getting harder to come by. Metallic silhouette has got my attention so far maybe even 500yd stuff dunno if i could ever hit anything at 1000yds  but wouldn't mind having a go.

IMO with what you are describing a 7mm08 or 260 rem. both based on the 308 case, A nd as you have a rem 7600 pump :? .The bc of both cals are hard to go past.

Hmm well if you want a target rifle, then do a 6mmBR, 6mmBRX or 6mmDasher. But if you want a large game rifle and a target rifle together, then I would be going for the 308 as you can shoot 1000 yds with it no problems and it will stop a decent critter
