New Adition To The Safe

Post by Buffy »

hi all, just thought i would share some pics of my new varminting rifle.... Its a remmington 700 BDL in .223 it has a custom tobler heavy fluted SS barrel, the action has been squared and the barrel has been floated and bedded.....it is topped with a Tasco World class 6-24x44 at the moment its shooting .6moa but that will get tighter with some load development...

enjoy the pics....

Sweet rifle BB. How long have you owned it? That's the original stock I take it, nice piece of wood.

Thanks Dave i have owned it for about a fortnight, as far as i am aware its the original timber, its a pleasant change from a synthetic stock.

BB,

Stick with the 308 for deer. Find a nice hard hitting load with 150 - 165 grain bullets and you will get good results.
The 223 is best reserved for smaller critters like bunnies, cats and foxes.

cheers

Macca,
I just called the ex owner that had this rifle built and got a few more specs....
The gunsmith that built her was Robert Tobler (from Tobler barrels) The barrel has a 1:8 twist and is a no:5 weight barrel. It was built for 1000yd comp, pushing 64gr match pills. But needless to say im lucky to see 1000yds let alone shoot somehing that far away...lol
it also has a sinclare match trigger that was also fitted by Robert Tobler. The Stock was refurbished better than new by Ken Davis.... Apparently the rifle has cost the old owner around 5 grand to build....

Its a good looking rifle BB, I have a CZ 550 in .308 im looking at getting re-tubed to 7mm, I wanted a sporter weight barrel but might go for something intermediate, not quite as heavy as your one, if such a beast exists.

Thanks for the kind words fellas, im very happy with it so far its awesomly accurate, i have it zero'd at 200m with hyland ax sp.... but that will change soon when i start reloading them.... i like the devastation them blitz kings create .... can you get them in 55gr for the 223??? have you guy's ever heard of "bullet over stabilization" ??? apparently i will come across that if i use too light a proj with that barrel???? im only new to this stuff so its all new to me..

yes mate you can get 55gr blitzkings for the .223 and you can also get them factory loaded in the highland sx range.
I have been using 55gr blitzkings out of my .223 which has a 1:9 barrel no problem but I'm not sure if you will encounter any problems shooting them out of a 1:8 barrel.

Beautiful outfit, and if RT did it, the rifle will certainly shoot.
