Vertical Stringing Win Mod 70 22-250rem

Post by kjd »

Hey Guys,

Just wondering your thoughts on this vertical stringing. Win Mod 70 push feed, 22-250 1in 8 twist 65gr Game King 33.5gr BM8202:
I’m thinking it could be a bedding issue.
What are your thoughts?

Barrel heating up + bedding issue perhaps. Assuming your rest is as solid as you can be.

Hey Keith,

I have seen similar when there is a touch point on the underside of the barrel in the channel.

I have seen similar in rimfires when the action screw torque is uneven and the the action is under weird tension.

A "feature" of the Marlin X_7 rifles. Had something like this myself due to Marlin having by design "blobs" at the front of the barrel channel.

I was told by Peter van muers years ago he had a model 70 doing a similar thing it turned out to be the action screw just binding on the bolt
As you close the bolt it rides up on the screw if the screw is slightly long

Who's barrel is it

But in all seriousness, my understanding is that jerking the trigger tends to cause horizontal stringing, or just erratic shots.

Action screw worth checking, it caused me some problems in the past.
