a revision
When I used my 50th birthday as the excuse to try scratching the 20 dasher itch that had been playing up for years I wanted to go all out on the build components. A BR quality varminter was the order. As I was going to join the Melbourne Benchrest club again I wanted it to be competitive at 300 mozzie as well, It probably is, I'm not.
BAT SV action with a hunter benchrest stock blah blah blah
But I don't have anywhere to go dedicated varminting. Most of my shooting is spotlighting and what a pain in the ass a single shot action was the whole two times I took it and a hunter bennchrest stock is not a full on BR stock so its not a frequent starter on the bench.
So I have an expensive ornament
Here again we have the lesson that a dual purpose something and is not the perfect anything and here again I prove that I'm a slow learner as I've been taught this before.
So the current plan is sell the hunter br stock. Get another Ned Kelly BR stock for the SV and move the 6bra barrel onto it then the current BR rile gets a new barrel and becomes a cruiserweight. The barrel and chambering have yet to be decided.
The immediate issue is turning the 20dasher into a magazine fed rifle. Ona budget.
I've just put a Howa 308 on layby.$399 for a barreled action and a new barrel to sell. MDT do AICS type magazine for br cases. An Oryx chassis is cheap and takes those mags. I hope it works
Hope it works.

Is the cruiserweight for heavy gun BR?
You could run the same cal in both LG and HG for simplicity in wind drift etc.
Or you could put a bigger boomer on it for the pure fun factor.
cheers

Re: a revision
Second question why do you need the dasher to be mag fed?
I have taken a leaf out of mistits book and am moving to single shot varmiters.
Just a thought, less hassle and stress.
cheers

Macca I think I’ve got to the sad stage where the project is more fun in the planning and doing than the end result

Re: a revision
I use exactly the same action on my 20 PPC.
Single shot right bolt left port.
I suppose you would call it a dedicated varminter but I use it for spotlighting all the time.
Just recently I was surprised when I emptied the bin to see the amount of empty bullet boxes
there was, 950+ shots in the last 12 month.
I do shoot from the window with a bag,
I keep my ammo in a piece of foam in the door pocket,
It works very well, fire shot, catch empty case and put in me pocket reach down grad next round.
I just throw the case in and it feeds every time.
Stock choice can have a huge impact on how much you like using a gun.
I liked my 6x47Lap but once I changed the stock it made a huge difference.
BR stock are just not user friendly in the field.

Glenn, I like that foam bullet holder, good thinking 99. Might have to pinch that idea. ![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)

Yep. I do get that. Real life often reduces our time to use the gear but there is a rush planning a new build, cal, stock etc.
I hope you get a lot of fun out of this one.

That is with the 20PPC the rifle in the picture on the window Macca.
Was a bit concerned once I counted the empty boxes, ordered a new Kreiger barrel immediately!
It's at my Gunsmiths when I need it!
Yeah the foam block saves a lot of headaches looking for ammo!
Thank you Camel.

Missed keeps trying to convert me to the 20PPC
Nice looking rig. I would be interested in knowing the round count when you feel accuracy starts to fade.
Cheers

There is a lot to like Macca!
I will always have one!
I will keep you posted on the round count but Missed is right up there with his old 20PPC and still shoots good!

Re: a revision
Trevort, the journey can have its own rewards.
Interesting that your using the Howa after your move to custom actions or is it a $$ thing. Nothing wrong with Howas.
Glenn thats a lot of dead stuff.
what projectile are you using?
