Finished the stock I got off Ned Kelly for me latest Brno 601, took a couple of weeks to get the inlet, bedding and rubbed oil finish done. Put it all back together today, no leftover bits which is always good.
Will be going out culling some Roos on Wednesday night to give it a try out.

Thanks fellas, I like it lots.

Mark, Tony, the thumbhole stocks are easier for me to grip with my dodgy wrist specially out the window of the ute where this will bet the most use.

Marcus, I don't have a next project........................yet. Though I have been trying to do a bit of mentoring for Bruce. :mrburns:

Mistit, does that mean you don't know much about them, or have some dislike for them ?? They are a pain in the arse with regards to their trigger set up, the standard trigger has a fair bit of drag before let off, but with some judicious grinding, the seer can be taken back and you do end up with a workable trigger. No after market triggers for them unfortunately. But basically they are a pretty good action, and I have a nostalgic like of the 601 action and Brno rifles in general. :D They would not make the grade with regard to a target rifle build, but with a good barrel attached, they are just as good as any other commercial action for a live varmint rifle.

Mark i had a 601 many years ago in 243. The original barrel was junked and i put in a Rem 788 barrel than shot like a varmint gun. Insanely accurate. Best gun i ever owned for slinging over the shoulder on a bike to chase hogs with. Its original classic style stock was tailor made for shooting ambidextrous. Hence the reason i have never owned a thumbhole, they are rarely able to be shot left and right handed.
A mate pestered me for ages to sell it to him, which i did after a time. Regret it to this day. That pop up rear peep sight feature has never been bettered. One day i will get another one. Actually a mate has one in 243 of all things that has offered to trade it for a rebarrel on a SSG 69. Only reason i have balked is that horrible Canjar trigger. Neither your arse or your elbow. Anyone got a trigger to trade?

No way mate, you are a naughty boy, or so they tell me.

Tony, I suffered for years using a normal stocked rifle after breaking my wrist yonks ago, it only too fifteen minutes or so until my wrist stiffened up and I can't quite bend it the way it was made to bend, and then I discovered thumbhole stocks, it must be the way my wrist isnt bent that makes all the difference. It still aches after a few hours, but I can live with it. I do have normal stocked hunting rifles, but they don't get shot out the window much, not like my varmint/work rifles. :D

I can’t shoot left handed anyway so I totally love thumbhole stocks. There are those that question my right handed abilities too...

Just looking at your barrel is it a carbon fibre?
