22lr Lilja Varmint rifle with McMillian 40A1 stock more info added

Post by lee_enfield223 »

Well I have been scraping the bits together for this for a while and it's all come together, it's a real shooter as well see the range targets. I bought a well used CZ453 22lr Varmint rifle and sent it off to a gunsmith I know to fit a Lilja 22lr barrel in the CZ455 Varmint profile, I then picked up a Cheap McMillian 40A1 US Marine corps CZ455 stock which I inletted to suit the 453 action and glass bedded. last of all I fitted a Bushnell Tactical 6x24x50 scope that's really clear and has a focus distance down to 25m so it suits my rifle perfectly, anyway here's a few pics. All the groups are of 5 shots and were shot at 50m

That’s sad. That’s the way I’d like mine to shoot

Nothing sad about that trev. Get a Lilja drop in and you can do it too! The only downside is the barrel costs more than the rifle.

Nice shooting.

Mine can do that IF I'm doing my job and using good ammo.

What ammo are you using?

Thanks for the kinds words regarding the rifle, I was in a hurry last night and should of posted more information so here it is.
1) it's a standard Lilja 6 land .222/.218 dia barrel with a straight profile of 22mm in size to copy the CZ455 varmint profile or come close to it.
2) it has a 22lr match chamber with a 5deg throat,,yes people say a 2 deg throat is better, but the 5 deg suits me, and was all the gunsmith had.
3) the ammo was Eley match with a muzzle velocity on the box of 1053fps where as most of it sold is about 1077fps
4) I tried eley edge ,Lapua center X, and lots of others like SK match, and RWS match rifle, but although some of the others were close in group size, they were not as consistent.
5) a Nightforce scopes shown in the picture but has been changed out to a Bushnell 6x24x50 which is clearer. I tried a vortex pst2 in 5x15 x44 and the Bushnell has the best optics out of all three, yes I was surprised

That's quite a rifle you have there. You have to be very pleased with that result.
