New Varmint Gun

I waited a long time for the the actions but I finally have one of them put together.

Everyone's idea of a varmint gun is different, in the US they just use BR guns, to heavy for spotlighting out of a car like we do here.
Trying to find a happy medium has been a frustrating exercise.
I had 2 varmint guns built, both built like BR guns, to heavy wrong stock bad balance.
Changed the stock on one which did improve it a fair bit.
The second one had a truck axle on it so to try and fix it the barrel was turned down,
I wanted #4 straight taper, ended up with a #4 tooth pick!

This time I brought the parts myself and I am very happy with the results.

BAT SV Right bolt left port
Kreiger 1in12 twist straight taper finished at 0.760
Jewel BR trigger
Walnut Maple thumbhole stock
BAT scope rings
Nightforce 5.5-22 50

Still have to finish the stock and do load development but the weight and balance is spot on!

It was also my first attempt at bedding a rifle!
I am reasonably
happy with the results.
They can only get better from here!

It is a 20PPC.
Barrel was chambered and fitted by Aaron at Precision Ordnance.
Aaron did a great job and his attention to detail is exceptional.
I hoping for 4150 with 40gr V-Max.

Nothing wrong with that bedding job Glenn. If it doesn't thread them through the same hole I would be very suprised.

Thank you!

The longer I think about finishing the stock the more I want to send it to Missed!
My 6x47Lap stock needs finishing too so I might just be a package deal!

I going away so I have to wait till I get back to shoot it. I tried to get it down but run out of time.

Will post groups as soon as I get back.

You should be sending it to me while you are away and it would nearly be ready by the Winter Solstice

Yeah I did think of that in the day before I left!
I think I will send both up to see when I get back!

You I know Trev but it takes as long as it takes, it's not fair to rush those artistic types!

I went through something similar,
204 #1 was a rem ss heavy varmint which shot well but I wanted something better.
204#2 was a stiller tac 30 in a mcmillan A5 with a fluted lilja 26'' barrel from PSECO which shot great but heavy to use when spotlighting.
204#3 is a sako hunter ss completely standard which I have been using for 5 years or so and for me it's close to perfect for the shooting I do.
I have been thinking of a 461 build in 20 cal of some sort....
Your new toy looks great and should shoot great too.

Well that makes me feel better 204 Hunter!
I have been trying to build what I consider an Australian Varmint gun or AusVarmint rifle.
I had people say weight dose not matter if you shoot out of the car but negotiating a heavy gun in the car can be a real issue.
It's all good once the gun is on the rest out the window but it's getting to that point can give you a Hernia.
Depending on where you put your gun in the car when your spotlighting a heavier rifle can make it real awkward.

This is what I have been trying till build from the beginning!

I will weigh it when I get back from me hunting trip.
