Rifle patterning!

Well that's what it felt like.

Took 4 rifles out to the range this morning to sight in after recently adding or changing scopes, really it's too many but this is the first opportunity to get to the rifle range for quite a while. The best I could get from the little cz223 and 338 were patterns until it clicked that the bipod off the bench was probably the cause. After swapping over to an ammo box and rolled up towel got the 223 dialled in pretty quickly with groups, probably needs a bit more work though as I was using reloads from my old 223, but they should work till I do some load development.

Ruger 303 put it's usual 3 into just over an inch with its new scope, which is about all I ask of it.

338 was still a cause for concern but as I was putting it away, I saw the scope had been slipping in the rings, if I hadn't been trying to do so many I might have noticed. Oh well I guess it gave me 20 cases to load.

Had to go and pick up the kids from school otherwise I would have tried to sort it.

Anyway at least I have got 4 of them sorted, and the little theoben showed once again it can put them through the same hole, well at least until the wind picked up.

Really got to get me some sort of better rest set up for the next time.

Sure beats working though....that will be next week.

Wrong ammo, slipping scope, and a bi pod throwing shots everywhere. Did you manage to pick up the correct children from school ??

Doubt a bipod will be causing problems to your groups off a bench. The bullet would be gone from the barrel before you would experience any bouncing.

Not sure why the bipod effected the groups, but taking it off made a difference to accuracy, the barrel is pretty light on the cz though. I'd heard previously that bipods on hard surfaces can cause problems with groups, but I'd never experienced it before when using heavy barrel rifles.

I measured up the targets today, one 5 shot group of 25mm and a second 5 shot group just under 25mm with 4 into 12mm after I took the bipod off as against between 75 and 100mm when it was on. :?:

Weird. Is the barrel free floated all the way?

It's just standard factory bedding so possibly not floated. Will have to check tomorrow.
