Oh no , not the crown.

After a 3 month wait I finally picked up my new sako 22/250, this was the second one as the first had nasty circular rings around the muzzle (just in front of the fluting), scuff marks in the last few mm of the bore and a rather odd looking ill fitting recoil pad...yes thats right I did say sako.
Well after all the piss farting around with warranty, and even getting the Berreta Guru himself to personally inspect the second one and sign a inspection cert my baby finally arrived.
As i took it out of its box I couldnt help but think this is really nice, no marks and a nice laminated stock with dark laminates..at long fucking last....until I inspected the crown.
To my disbelief the small 45deg schamfer that cuts into the bore looked like it had been done with a vegy peeler and to make matters worse ,one of the lands has got a nice little ding in the middle of the edge of the bore.
How cool is that? so what do I do? do I have it tidied up which will cost about 150 bucks, do I ignore it and start shooting it hoping it wont affect accuracy (which I doubt ) or burst into tears  , pack it up and send it back to Berreta for more head fucks and another 3 month wait
To make matters even worse is that here in south oz , good smiths are bloody rare...
cheers or is that tears.

Make sure you post some photos for us when you are hammering it in to hold up this years tomatoes. Thanks

Sorry to hear about it mate, a real head fuck that's for sure. Not sure what the Baretta gunsmith was looking at when he inspected it, open bolt look at the funny twisty lines, close bolt and sign chit. Not good enough for sure.

a google on muzzle crowning may give you some ideas. Good luck

Another 3 months of hassle, or a rifle that you will never have confidence with, and always despise?

I know what I would prefer mate.

What is going on with Sako lately, mate had to send 2 back that had fooked barrels, others complaining about cases not ejecting properly and denting brass, now this - they seem to have a few quality control issues going on, something I wouldn't expect for a $2k plus rifle.

Are you on Facebook? Tikka and Sako owners of Australia is the page I'd go to. Run by Tony Saros who I believe is Duggaboybuff off AHN.

Hi mate, no im not , Tony Saros was the Guru who personally picked out a good one for me as a favour for a gunshop mate of mine which at the begining it wa a bit of a pain in the arse for him. But to his credit he took the time to pick out a really nice one with no aesthetic faults. I think I would be pushing my luck if I asked him to fix upthe crown.... or would I .

It will cost you nothing to ask, or the cost of a phone call at least.

How true!

I have a gun like the one Mick is talking about!

Mate is using it because I will wrap it around a tree if I have to look at it!

I would rather wait for what I want than what I will never use!

Ring them!

Glenn

I don't think it would be pushing your luck, they are a company who say they will stand by their products, and I believe they generally do, Tony has helped a fair few blokes who have complaints on products, and he seems very willing to help. I had some screws for mounts that didn't match the threads on one of my Zastava actions, asked him for advice and he just told me to send them down and he would get the problem sorted. Easy bloke to work with. A high priced quality rifle like a Sako should be backed up by after sales help to the value of the product.

You tell me mate, sako was THE rifle as a kid I and alot of others drooled over....now it seems to have lost alot of its shine.
I bought a sako quad and could not believe it that when I shook the stock (without the action) the thing actually rattled , like a wooden keg with a golf ball in it. So after telling Tony Saros about it he had to see or hear it
am getting pissed off with forking out tidy sums of money for faulty products.
cheers. for himself ...long story short , I got another stock.

Yeah Glenn, its a real c..t , you work hard to save the money to buy something good for yourself and you end up with products with quality control issues. The cash you hand over aint counterfeit yet the products are dodgy....shit!
