Going to try a 20cal. Narrowed my choices down to 20 Vartag or 20/222 to go in Sako L461 Varmint stock.Leaning towards the 20/222 ,thinking of better feeding with longer OAL round and cos Camel has one. :D Have 221 Fireball n 222 brass. Few questions...Looking at purchasing a Krieger 1/12 twist s/s in rem profile barrel .($600) .will be using 32 to 35 grain projectiles for most of my shooting. How do Krieger compare to say Pacnor,Maddco and the like.? Does anyone know who has a 20/222 reamer.?.Cheers George

Excellent choice on Donor 8)
The Sako will feed both cartridges easily
The 20/222 is the easiest case to form out of the 2 at the moment
But when and if NIOA decides to bring in 221 Fireball Nosler and Lapua brass the playing field will be level
I know a gun plumber who has a 20 VT reamer he is not far from you either.

G'day Goerge , 20/222 is the way to go I've used both and it's a no brainer , Camel asked me last night for the number of the smith who did Mine to give to you I think ? Krieger is as good as it gets with any of those you have mentioned you can't go wrong just don't go with the other brand in Queensland :D

Good onya George, I have sent you a pm with the info from mistit, good luck with it mate, bit worried about the choice of Sako action, but I spose its a good second to the Zastava. Hope the weather is a bit more pleasant today for the big shoot, clear and windy here today.

Kreiger are a very good barrel maker.

Just a word of warning on your load development. You will find stuff on the interweb saying they have tight bores.

My one and only Kreiger experience bears that out. My first load developments I fired a few " safety rounds" at 27.5, and 27.6 and then straight out to groups at 27.9 which was my 204 load in my ruger VT (and ADI max listed at the time)

I lost all those cases due to stretched primer pockets. The max load I settled on at 27.3 got the desired accuracy and velocity though.

You may reach the max load sooner than you think

Did you fall and hit your head?

How long is the wait on the Krieger?

Maddco Lilja would work well too!
20-222 is the go!
Better to form and the results with Camels speak for themselves!

Nah mate, but I did knock it on a low branch the other night when picking up a rabbit from under a tree.

You got the last two right, I think I have convinced him it is the way to go.

I was asking myself the same question, 20vt or 20-222 and like you have chosen the 20-222. I have a zastava action and when the funds permit will be getting a lilja from seddo. Hopefully you guys don't wear the 20-222 reamer out in the meantime, I will need the name of the plumber when the time comes.

Kreigers are bloody good barrels. The are nice and hard and last a long time and they are accurate as hell I've shot a 5" 10 shot group with on of my target rifles wearing a 308 kreiger.

I have a chrome moly Kreiger of my 280 Ackley. It is a good barrel. My smith who has had lots of experience making barrels and lapping them said the finish was excellent and that it didn't require any real lapping effort.

I haven't noticed any pressure issues with my loads but to be fair I load for accuracy not max velocity. Also being 7mm it might be different to the 20 regarding tightness.

Hearing great things about Kreiger barrels as well as PAC-Nor.
