Rebuild

I had my 20PPC built a bit over 3 years ago.
I waited 22 months to get it!

When it turned up and it was not what I ordered I was bit pissed to say the least!
The barrel was a fluted truck axle (straight taper, 0.94" at the muzzle) and the bedding was crap.
I fixed the bedding, had the stock clear coated and did the load development.
Lucky it shot spectacular and I love the cartridge!

Here is what it looked like.

Last year a Stiller D'back drop port BR gun was on Used Guns for sale and knowing Stiller don't make
them anymore I brought to rebuild the 20PPC.
The action was glued into the stock so I was surprised to say the least when I took the barreled action out of the stock and
found out someone had attacked the bottom of the action with a Dremel and put crosses all over it to make it "stick" better! WTF!

I left it for a while in disgust!
It got the better of me and took it to me Gunsmith and showed him.
He filled it with epoxy and smoothed it out so it would not lock up with bedding compound.
He had the barrel recontoured to a much more user friendly profile rechambered and fitted the barrel to the Stiller.
I am going to make a new stock but for the time being I had it bedded into the original stock.

The scope mounts are high I know but I am chasing some lower ones, but we can still shoot it till then!
I picked it up the Thursday before the Missedathon and had a bit of a shot up there with it to see if it still shot ok and all good.
We took it out to check it when we come home and zero properly due to removing the scope.
Quick bore sight and first and second shot on top of each other!
Adjust scope, fired 1 more and perfect, done in 3 shots!

Took it fox shooting a few times and works very well.
Couple at closer ranges but one a 280m!
The main thing I noticed is how much easier the gun is to move around the car!
It is 0.75" at the muzzle now.
Because we use our varmint gun for spotlighting big barrels like the Yanks don't work even out of a car!
The action is nice to use with the right bolt left port and the drop port.

Was if worth it you bet!

I can't believe someone did what they did to key the action to the bedding compound. Having had release agent fail before with a bearing in Devcon, that sort of practice is totally unnecessary.

Which gunsmith oversaw the rebuild?
Cheers...

Been hoping you would put up a post on the remake mate, came out nicely. You are right, there really is no need for mega heavy barrels when shooting out of a vehicle. No more brass flicking out the window now, guess there wont be any excuses for the odd missed shot now. Good onya thanks. :D

I can now see the logic in RBLP that you were explaining to me later in the night at Yass.
Looks good, the 20ppc sounds like a nice round.

Looking good. I'm sure I'm not the only one curious as to the location if the old action...?

Gunsmith ended up with it!
We come to an agreement we were both happy with!

The dual port was not much good spotlighting, cases would go straight through!
