Hi Guys,

My Boyds stock arrived for my .22-250 Axis yesterday, fitted it last night and it feels awesome. I am hoping it will be an improvement over the plastic noodle stock it came with.

I was at work when it got delivered yesterday, the delivery guy knocked on the door and my wife answered:

Delivery Guy "I have a package for Lachlan, are you Lachlan"
Wife "do I look like a Lachlan?"
Delivery guy "No"
Wife "then why ask me if I am Lachlan"
Delivery guy "Are you licensed to take delivery of this gun?"
Wife "What gun? the paperwork states timber gun stock! It's no gun so I don't need to be licensed"
Delivery guy "ahh, ok"
Wife "the only thing it is good for atm would be a bludgeoning tool, I could hit you with it"
Delivery guy "please sign here"

It cracked me up when she called and told me.

Definitely polishing a turd there mate but still it made it into a much better looking turd haha. The stocks on those things are shocking.

You should have got something with in built rails and camo paint and then you could have been a Tac Turd!!!!

I reckon for the price of a boyd's turd polishing is almost compulsory for the cheap rifles with crappy flexible plastic stocks

Nice stuff, don't listen to the rest of them, they are just jelous. I mean it could be worse, it could be a tikka - that would be the equivelant of polishing a sloppy turd

Hey Puddles, your missus sounds like a cracker. Would have loved to be there and watch the blokes reaction.
Nothing wrong with your Axis, they shoot pretty well. Boyds stocks are great, Ive got the same patern on my 20/222, pity they wouldn't make the varminter version and only the light sporter when I got mine.

I don't know if it looks that much like a turd.........looks good!

Let us know what it feels like to shoot with the new stock. Is the barrel floated okay? Did you have to do any fitting to get it into the new stock?

cheers, curan

Thanks guys! It fit perfectly with no need to do anything and the barrel floats.

I did have one question for the guru's, the barrel is slightly off centre in the groove only by a pubic hair but it is noticeable when you look closely; will this effect accuracy etc?

Hey Puddles,
To my mind I wouldn't think that would make a great deal of difference providing it's not touching anywhere. Have you bedded the action or just sat it in the stock and tightened up the action screws.
You might find if you haven't bedded it that it might help if you did.
Just a thought.
By the way your wife obviously can't stand fools and boy there shore is some doozies out there. You wonder how they ever keep their jobs.
Well done on your stock, it looks good enough to shoot tiny little holes in things.

Far from a Guru, but I found that the Boyds stock were pretty generous with their inletting, if it worries you too much, bed the action but make sure you have the barrel even in the channel when you do it.
My CZ 22 barrel is also off centre, by a fair bit, say six mickey hairs or bees dicks, whichever measurement you prefer :P , but it doesn't effect the performance at all, I did bed the action, but didn't wrap enough tape around the barrel to centre it. I can live with it. :D

I found it made my 223 stevens shoot a touch better but it is just sooooo much nicer to shoot and the little bit of extra weight in the stock and the thumbhole soaks up what little recoil there was and makes spotting your shots much easier

If your worried about mickey hairs just use the Gillette.

And others have said I would bed it but only after the above treatment.

I will shoot it and see how it goes, might give the bed job a go when I have some spare time and will need to study up on how to do it so I dont f#$k it up.

I am in the same boat, I will bed both of mine one day but just haven't got around to it
