My lovely wife has offered to buy me a new rifle for my birthday this year
I want something chambered in .204
I'm kinda leaning towards a CZ527 Varmint Kevlar http://www.winchesteraustralia.com.au/p ... Z204VRTKEV I reckon they look pretty awesome and it might even be accurate
But I'm open to suggestions / recommendations

after having two cz527 over the years i think the best thing to happen (for me any way) was the arrival of the HOWA 1500
they are very robust and tack drivers

just my thoughts, brands are just like calibers the one you love someone else hates

I would go with the heaviest I could find
I have had a shot out of a mates cz and personally found it had to much jump after firing.
Wasn't the Kevlar model but would have weighed around the same I would suspect.
Some would say that's not an issue, for me it was.
By the way, he's since traded it on a tikka HV and loves it.
I have a sako 85 varmint and find that still jumps even though its all up weight is around 5kgs.
And that's with hand loads which are not as potent as factory/ store bought stuff.
You didn't say what you were going to use it for, spotlighting out of a vehicle or a walk around varminter?

You will quickly find that you will get 100 different opinions on which rifle to buy!

My advice to you would be: go to the local gun shop and handle them, carress them and find out what rifle fits best to you. I could tell you to buy the CZ, but you might find it a bucket of crap because it doesn't suit you (I love them by the way).

As others have said already, what will it be used for? Don't bother with something to heavy if it's mainly a walk around rifle. A extra kilo or two is a pain in the arse for that job. If it is a dedicated spotlighter/shoot of bipod/bench gun, sure get a heavy rifle - I prefer my rifles heavy, but my dad doesn't for example - get what suits you best. The .204 shouldn't buck too much, plenty of people on here will say squeeze the trigger and watch the show!

Hope this helps mate - as others have said you can save $750-1000 by purchasing a cheaper rifle that can still shoot like stink with homeloads. Use that for a good scope!

They are a good accurate rifle, would I own one ? Sure would, if they could get rid of the stupid detachable magazine, I hate the bloody things especially at night when shooting out the window of the ute, always getting snagged up, I much prefer the internal magazines. It is the one gripe I have with my CZ 22 work rifle, bloody magazine.
Others are going to say they like the magazines, they may well do and its suits their situation. When Im using a centrefire at work, after every shot I just drop one in the top of the action and push it down into the magazine, no stuffing around taking the mag out, filling it then putting it back. Just buy a spare, you might say, sure would if they were cheap enough, but the last CZ centrefire magazine I saw for sale was around 150 bucks stuff that.

Howa and Weatherby Vangards look good and shoot well from what I have read, Sako 75 or 85 Varmint would be the top of the tree, if your expenses go that far.

My previous posts would have revealed my love of Howas. I reckon I get a lot for my money with my stainless ultralight.

Either of those would make a fine spotlighting rig
I've shot a mates older ruger and it was very nice to use
Long brl and not much muzzle jump.
I've not had the chance to use a savage but I've heard good reports from them
Either will do what you want it do do.
Comes down to personal choice really and how much you want to spend.
