My 223, 260, and 22lr

Post by Ackley Improved »

Thought I'd share my couple rifles.

First is a 223. Features the following.

Bighorn TL2 action with 20MOA rail
Krieger #15 22" barrel 1:8 twist. Freebore set so maximum OAL for 223 AI mag.
KRG Whisky 3 chassis
Jewell trigger
Seekins rings
TAB sling
Harris bipod
nightforce 5.5-22x50 milrad zero stop high speed mildot

Running lapua brass and 2208 powder. Rifle is new, only tested a few loads which I will confirm in next few days. Currently 69 Nosler CC's at 3100fps, no pressure. 75Amax 2900fps, and these looked the goods. Only had 10 rounds of each which was put over chrony and shot for group. Did save 3 rounds of 75's and shot to 570m. Looks impressive to say the least.

I am addicted to the 223 fast twist. It is a great round and will be my hunting buddy 95% of the time. Most of my shots are within 400m and the 69-75's can do it no problem. Light recoil, cheap to run, no fancy case forming, Lapua brass, awesome barrel life, just has to much going to it. The 75's hit pretty hard too. I wanted to use another stock, but it fits the bill nicely when running a LED torch for spotlighting. Stay tuned with what this rifle will be doing!

260

Defiance Rebel AW action with 20MOA rail
Bartlein barrel 1:8 rem varmint 21" threaded for brake/thread protector
manners MCS-T with mini chassis
Jewell trigger
ARC M10 rings
Schmidt and Bender 3-12 MTC milrad gen2 mildot
Tac Ops stock pack
Atlas bipods
Metal melonited
TIS sling

This Defiance action would be the smoothest action I have ever had my hands on. Truly amazing. The whole rifle is a great package and from the get go very accurate. I was running a R&D MRAD brake but removed it for hunting. 130 Bergers with 2209 at 2875fps. It has accounted for a few foxes now, and I feel very confident when I pull the trigger. Also AW magazines are a great addition. Double stack 10 rounders. They can be loaded top feed as well so great for topping up a round without removing the mag.

I hope you enjoy the pictures. I will also add the Sako Quad Range and a Browning B725 shotty in the coming weeks.

Awesome rifles AI. I particularly like the 260, looks great, would make an ideal hunting partner for most situations!

Im with him.

but reading your post about barrel life got me looking quizzical. Why would you even mention that when you only keep them long enough to run them in? :P

Nice rifles AI.

Do you have any other favourite hunting projectiles for the 223, or are the AMax and CC as good as you'll ever need?

Cheers

The Nosler 69 CC's are pretty darn explosive on critters. They are cheap too!! The Bighorn action is very nice. I like it. The Defiance has got it on smoothness, but it isn't no slouch. Fast twist 223's are the best thing since sliced bread!

I got a chubby looking at those photo's.
They are very nice rifles.

The good thing about the AW mags is you can seat them long, as opposed to the AICS mags where they are length tolerant.

I've looked and looked and looked, and tried to find something that I didn't really like about those rifles, cant find anything wrong mate, they look bloody good, and if they shoot as well as they look you gotta be a happy fella.

Another pair sick looking rifles AI. Dont think I have seen one of your rifles that I wouldn't want to own. You should do a list of your builds and purchased rifles. Be interesting
