G'day Adam,
I had a sporter M55, in 222, and it shot 1/2" (13mm) grouped consistently with Hornady 52gn BT Match bullets. Brilliant rifle, then I sold it for a Rem700 in 22-250
I've had several Tikkas and they all shot brilliantly with hand loads
Good luck

They are a very good rifle, good reputation for accuracy, nice smooth action, I remember they were very highly regarded when they were being produced, I had a sporter back in the late 80s, shot very well, another one that was let go on a whim when I had to have the latest, and not very often, greatest. Mine was a 222 as well, used to shoot 20.5gn reloader 7 with Nosler 50gn solid base projectiles.
As to scope, what are you mainly going to use it for, figure that out and it will make it easier to find the scope that you need. I like the Ziess Conquest line, I think Im up to 4 now, and haven't had any problems with them. I guess it all depends on you budget as well.
Edited to add............... Welcome to the forum, don't be like a fair few others and never post again after joining, join in and have some fun.

seems like I got a good deal then huh, swapped my marlin heavy barrel .17hmr for the m55.
just trying to sus out if I got a good gun or not, had a few good offers on it too! at the moment im running Remington corlockts through it in 55 gr but going to hornady vmax 50.5s soon.
it has a 8x40 Nikko crown on it at the moment, thinking Leopold is a touch out of my price range!.
was thinking bushel or tasco but not to sure yet.
as for joining and posting, I hate when people do that too.
p.s also have a .22 mag single shot full stock made by harington and Richardson im trying to find a lil bit out about too

G'day Adam,
Welcome to the forum!
It s a great place with knowledgeable shooters who've been there, done that.
Scope choice best you can afford, but definitely try the existing scope first. I had a 6x weaver Steelite back in the mid 80's great scope. With younger eyes it was deadly on rabbits out to 250yds using Remington factory 50gn ammo and my reloads. Also my brother is still using the weaver on his Ruger 22magnum varmint rifle.
I'd say a good fixed power 6x-8x scope no bigger than 50mm or a quality variable 4-12 or 6-18 x 50mm. I feel that 50mm is as large as the front lens/bell housing should get on a hunting rifle as you could have trouble with your cheek weld on the stock.
But definitely get the best scope you can afford, a quality rifle deserves a quality scope as it is the scope that frequently lets you down.
Good luck
Cheerio Ned

thanks for the warm welcome guys.
hey camel ill check the scopes out shortly. ned its a 8x40 on it but its not variable. i dont like the scope at all. its a nikko stirling "crown". its fairly old. quiet possible the scope that it was bought with. want somthing variable and that is abit better on my eye.
ive shot a fox at 250-300 yards with ease

Welcome to a top site Adam
Your 222 looks very nice.
The 222 is a great cartridge, usually very easy to extract excellent accuracy from too.
If I didn't owe some cash for other projects then I would buy Camels weaver, would be a nice all round scope but others do prefer a little more power. As some have said it just depends on what your planning to do.
