guy's have any of you had or shot a 22lr rebarrelled to 20 cal extruder ? i have a great little old vorere ( spelling ? ) i paid $75 for it . everything is smooth & functions well but it's at that point where needs some tlc . i know it's cheaper to buy a new 22 but i'm one of those blokes that never learns . anyways i'm gona refinish the stock myself & free float the barrel & have a go at bedding it . it could do with a reblue as well . btw it shoots almost the same as my mates new $750 savage ss varmint @ 50 . i've known about the extruder since the 80's , & with all the rimfire ammo out there it would make some interesting testing . specialy the sub sonic stuff . what's your thoughts .

Howdy deadkelly. Fist up - No I've never shot or owned one, but I did do my homework on the conversion many years ago. No probs re spending a bit to refurbish an older .22 rifle that you like. A lot of new .22's are so cheap that it would be hard not to invest more $ into a .22 restore eh?. I would make sure that it ain't got any serious defects before laying out your hard earned though, as they say "you can't polish a turd".....
Regarding the Langsford 20 cal barrel conversion, my advice would be don't do it. The actual velocity increase of an extruder was less than 100f.p.s more than a standard barrel, in spite of the advertised claims.
There was an associated loss of accuracy with .20 cal compared to the parent .22, and they were prone to lead-foul the rifling so they had to be kept clean. I reckon you might have a hard time sourcing a suitable .20 cal barrel too.
The Voere is a nice little rifle and you can pick them up in "excellent" nic for around $400 so I wouldn't spend too much on it.
All just my 2 cents worth mate. Cheers!

yeah m8 i called sprinter & got a quote . $450 for the barrel fitted . the money is not the issue , it's more that there's no hard fact's & it's a total gamble wether it'll even shoot as good as it does now .the old girl just needs a reblue really & stock refinish .

i would definitely want one of those. I've been holding out for a remington 541 in 5mm.
I wonder how many hummer owners would jump ship for a twenty hmr

i can't understand why they went 17 cal . yeah i know it shoots a bit flatter but , a 20 cal 32 gr - 40 gr would also shoot flatter than a 22 mag . hit much harder than a 17 hmr & i reckon it would be 150 m rimfire . i still haven't bought a 17 hmr or a 22 mag yet although it's always on my mind . i'm leaning towards the 22 mag myself because i'd shoot more hares & foxes with the odd dog or cat thrown in rather than rabbits . including wind & long grass into that mix . i don't think a 20 hmr would be enough to rush out & retire ya 17's . but it pisses me that there's so many 17 hmr rifle options but they don't offer the same for the 22mags .

Hi deadkelly. I don't have a 17hmr, but there are guys on this forum who use them very effectively. I do however have a .22wmr and it quickly became my favourite small game walkaround. Like any rimfire it has a favourite brand of ammo and it's good for 1" groups @100m with federal 40g blues. Shoots pretty flat out to 100 and doesn't blow around much either. I wouldn't be in a hurry to shoot pigs with it but it has claimed a heap of rabbits, redcoats and pest birds. Looks like this....

It's called fashion mate. No sense to it. They are simply filling a perceived demand made by good advertising and gun writers that are in their pocket. Now the HMR is suffering bad press due to poor ammo issues, and these rifles are rapidly filling the second hand market. A few blokes I have talked to, are selling as they cannot buy decent ammo (split necks etc).
Me, I will stick to my Martini cadet 22 mag (shoots like stink with CCI 30gn HP's and Hornady 30 Vmax) and my No2 MkIV SMLE trainer in 22 Mag. Oh, and my 17 Fireball.....

I had Myra 20 Cal extruder rifle N#1.
It was very accurate with Rws High Velocity hollow points and it was very impressive in the paddock.
It was very effective on hares and foxes, you could see the difference in performance over a normal 22 rimfire shooting the same ammo.
Good luck,
Regards
