What's a tube gun?
Why's it a tube gun?
What are the disadvantages/ advantages of this over the average stock?
Cheers. James.

G'day Clickclickboom,
My observations are that 'TubeGuns' generally resemble an AR-10 / AR15 and are generally owned by those who are unable to acquire a cat D license and that like to parade around the range dressed in Desert Cam with a flaktarn vest and Vietnam era 'Air America' patches.
The initial belief that they are very robust is a misconception and if you are building a tube gun with a Stainless steel action don't expect much from it in terms of life expectancy as a Galvantic corrosion may occur pending on the quality and grade of metal in both the action and Aluminium sleeving. Given the mass produced cheap shit that is banged out in China these days I wouldn't place much faith in the grade of Aluminium nor want to get one wet after having sold a Kidney or for having traded the severed head of the village Priest for what they are deemed to be worth.
Another disadvantage is that they can be very heavy and quiet awkward to fire from a vehicle (spotlighting) and from a bench. They are also not the kind of rifle that you would want to be hiking up and down hills with or attempting to pass through brush with.
Personally, I would stay away from a 'tubegun' as the initial expense including the weight and awkwardness is not worth the oohs and aahs. A good rifle should be practical and the cosmetic appeal should be least of your concerns.

arh non believers.
tube guns were inventer for prone shooting and there for can be uncomfortable to shoot standing or off a bench. THIS DOESNT MAKE THEM WANKERS GUNS BUT TARGET GUNS. the idea of the tube stock is to be lighter than timber stock, adjustable to the shooter and offer full action contact while increasing its strength and prone to flexing. The REAL MAK is not what Cleavers are selling, they are sellign their own brand. the real mak uses a round recoil lug to give you 100% contact with the action/stock and the ability to change barrel with ease. they can be bolt in or glued in the the chassis. in the states they give shooters the ability to shoot a target rifles with the feel as their fun rifle. I have talked to cleavers about their paragon adn they say the grind down the standard recoil lug so it fits in the stock, this is not what i would call a precision stock. Once you pick up a tube gun you will change your mond, they are very comfortable. Its a shame that some owners of tubeguns are wankers as it gives them a bad rap.
have a look here:
where it all started - David Tubb and his TUBB 2000
http://www.davidtubb.com/
The mak
http://www.tubegun.net/
The Elisio
http://www.competitionshootingstuff.com/
as you can see from the above links it was developed for a purpose and that was long range prone shooting.

G'Day All,
I was going to say what Seddo said! And he said it very well too!
Many top shooters in the USA who shoot long range prone shooting like our Full Bore used the Eliseo Tube kit for Remington actions. Even Jim Borden has made an action "specifically" for the tube gun kits, much better option than a trued Remmy. So many copycat ideas but as usual the original idea is often the best..........

What a bunch of snotty private school girls you lot are.
I wonder if tube guns were going to be banned if you lot would fight for them or would you just go "I'll never shoot one so I don't care" like all the other selfish shooters out there.
They look nothing like AR15's anyway.
By the way I don't own and wouldn't own a tube gun but your attitudes stink. Why bag out other shooters as if we don't have enough enemies.

Well said Keith! If we don't support each other we won't need the greens or RSPCA or anyone else to destroy us. I haven't shot a duck in years but I've worn a keyboard out voting in polls and commenting on all these stupid anti duck articles doing the rounds ATM.
As a LAFO I don't care what u own or shoot I will defend your right to do so
Solidarity is expected not division.
If u don't like the aesthetics of a certain gun all you need to say is " not my cup of tea" not shit can any owner of one.
Cheers

PS - i don't own a tube gun

Me neither...........nor do I give a toss about ducks. But I do the same polls where I see them, and for the same reason.

How could you not like this stock!
http://www.xlrindustries.com/index.html
Seddo covered everything that you need to know.
This sock will be on the next gun I build for long range hunting.
It will primarily be shot prone but will be carried as well.
It will suit my needs perfectly!
That is why they make more than one stock, so you have a choose!!!
If you don't like it don't buy it!

G'day all,
I dont own a tube gun, probably never will, BUT from an engineering perspective, for a field/tactical/prone stock with full Length of pull and cheek piece adjustment and full floating barrel with the ability to BOLT ANY ACCESSORY you should ever need (or want) on to it; it sure is a FLEXIBLE stock system.
It may not provide BR accuracy but for 95% of shooters it WILL provide a level of flexiblity with accuracy for most shooters without the need for multiple stocks and should still provide the option of quick barrel changes if needed.
Why do you think the US Military are heading this way and the Aust. Army are using Blasers for the VERY SAME REASONS!
I dont think anyone here would call any front line soldier a wanker, would they? Lets face it the AI rifles are a quick barrel change, chassis type stock, so what's the difference to a properly built tube gun....NOTHING!
All I see is pure prejudice. I'ld almost bet those of you out there would instantly swap a 3/4 moa rifle for a tube gun that shot better than 0.5moa if given the choice.
If you dont like it fine; say its not you sort of thing, if it doesn't shoot that's fine too, but if it shoots good enough for top level competition its hard to say its for wankers!
Some people need to reassess their ideas and get some perspective on things, the world it's a-changing.
sorry for rant, please re-consider.

My comment was made to 'stir the pot' ! I hope no-one was offended by it.
If there is a move to ban these firearms, let me know. Regardless of my opinion (tongue in cheek, or otherwise) I will do what I can to support those who want, need, or just feel like owning, one of these firearms.
United we stand...divided we fall.
