i love smle's & have a old worn out one withe heaps of parts with a 7.62x39 barrel that had a sloppy chamber & headspace problems . & i have 25/303 barrel to suit a no 4 mk1 action . & a set of 3030 ai dies heaps of 3030 brass & heaps of 30 cal bullets & projectiles . ( mainly pointed barnes , speer 130gr hp , accu tips , & balistic tips )
i'm not sure what to do with the action . have a rugged brush gun in 7.62x39 or make a sporter with a 10 shot 25/303 or or another brush gun in 30/30 ai . i have reloading dies for all 3 calibers . i'm leaning towards the 25/303 or 30/30 improved .
30/30 brass is readerly avalable & quite cheap . i allready have a 303 sporter . & a 6.5x55 so all cals coverd .
i even thought 30/303 im , or 35 or 375 303 im .
what to do ????
i just want to do it because i love smle's & i know others don't but so be it . it's just some thing to tinker with .

I like the .35 idea best.

375 JDJ (375/444) , dies and 444 brass are readily available and it will feed better than the 45.70 or 444 options. There's a bloke over on AHN with a SMLE in that chambering. You can shoot 220 FN at 375 win velocities or crank it up with 260 or 300's. Easy to load for, they run superbly on 2206H, varmint accuracy with big game knockdown...well it is in my TC contender

yeah the 375 jdj is cool & so is the 4570 .
i was just reading about the 416 barnes .
who dose good work on smles ??????

idealy i'd love a improved 303 case necked up to 375 or 416 so i could still use charger clips . & have a long eye relief scope or pistol scope like a scout rifle , not the strongest action but very smooth & slick , 10 shot mag + fast reloading with charger clips .
eather 303 improved & necked up or a jdj round are apealing to me for increased weight of bullet , velocity & energy without exceding smle pressure . it should give close to 45/70 energy's but using more streamlined bullets for a flatter trajectory & deep penetration .
can this be done without a custom chamber reamer or is that something that would have to be made ?
if it needs to be custom made who could make it . i know it would cost a lot but it's only money .

Built a bench rest gun on the action, chamber it in 30/30AI. They will be talking about you for years!!

this is a 416/03 or 416 strauss . that would be perfect for what i want . although i would have to load it a bit lighter for the smle action . i think it would be similar to a 4570 with better downrange performence.
