I have been fattening up the stock to add a bit of weight to help with keeping the scope picture during recoil. It was always a problem with this rifle with it being so light.

Also lapped the scope rings in readiness for my new Vortex Viper 6.5-20x50. Am glad i did this as you can see in the pic all was not lining up to well.

While i was waiting for the filler to go off on the stock i started on my new bench rest, but thats another story.

Great work kickinback,
My long term M55 project is currently off at the Gunsmith's waiting for a barrel to arrive and be chambered etc.
I've not decided on whether to use the original stock or get a laminated walnut one from Geoff Slee.
Im watching your posts on this with a great deal of interest just to see if it shoots appreciably better after the trueing etc. I used to own a tikka m55 in 22.250 and was never that impressed with the accuracy. I sold it when funds were tight, only to buy another one for this 20 cal project. that Im getting done ATM. Heres my original posts on the rifle http://ausvarmint.kjd84.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1150

I sent the rifle to Keith Hills of KHGS as he seems to get a few mentions as the Smith of some very accurate target rifles. He's also easy to talk to and gave a reasonable estimate of price on the various processes I asked to have done.
The plan as far as the chambering goes is to have a standard 204rug reamer run in aproximately 200 thou short and have a set of 204ruger dies modified to suit. This will allow me to use 222rem cases necked down to 20 cal full length sized and fireformed to push the shoulder forward. It all sounds really easy if you say it quick
.
If it doesnt work out I will just have to have the magazine modified to feed 204rug length cartridges and have the chamber reworked to 204rug.

Jethro, sounds like a top idea that caliber choice.
I had Geoff set aside his last laminated walnut blank for my 17fb. This was some months ago now. At that stage he told me he wasnt happy with his supplier and that might be last laminated walnut for a while. He wouldnt take a deposit and the rifle build has taken ages so he might have sold it or he might have a new supplier by now.
Any way, Shane is investigating a synthetic option for me. I f it works out, if Geoff still has my blank and if you decide laminated walnut we can have a chat with him.
A few iffs there!

I cracked the sh*ts today and decided that if i was going to shoot this thing over christmas it needs to be finished or close to it.
Although i want to make the comb adjustable it will have to wait until later as i have a few family commitments over the holidays and i want to sqeeze in letting off a few crackers out of this.
I went down to the hardware and my son helped with the paint color which was applied as soon as we got home.
After it dried in went the rifle and i fitted the new Vortex Viper 6.5-20x50 scope. So now its time to plan for the trip and we will see if its all been worth it.
Merry christmas and a happy new year to all
