I've got one of them but the fluted hunter version. She kicks a bit as my youngest found out on Saturday with his eyebrow getting a touch up.
Yeah I bet it does mate, GriMo has a 308 in the lite stainless and it boots pretty bad. But with the HB and a muzzle brake it should reduce the recoil so it's manageable.

Cheers!

I am going to buck a trend here - why would you go with the WSM over the 300WM if you are going with a long action rifle?

Everything else about the plan sounds good, especially with the growing number of trick parts available for the T3.
The real advantage I can think of is that the WSM case in that action will give the ability to fiddle with seating depth better than the 300 Win Mag.

Mind you, that might be negated by the Tikka magazine system?

This is all true, but A) they have the 300WSM's in stock at the moment.
B) What has the 300WM got over the WSM?
C) If I decide to wait for a 300WM Is a 7mmRem going to be as good or better with the Higher BC per bullet weight?

A 300WM magazine stop and magazine would resolve the magazine length constraint.

A. Availability of WSM definitely tips the balance.
B. The WM should give about 150 fps with the slippery heavy pills when loaded at similar pressures to the WSM. Brass is available from more manufacturers and factory ammo is more available if you need it. Neither is enough to justify waiting if you want it now.
C. The 7RM will spit out similarly slippery bullets a good bit faster than the 300WM (using 162 7mm vs 208 308 AMax for example) so yes, provided energy isn't a consideration.

Get the 300WSM and shoot the 175SMK or the 178Amax. That be a nice combo!

I had a look at that one this afternoon mate, just a tad long for the action I ordered.

I agree that the 7mm Rem Mag is the better cartridge if retained energy is not the major factor. Keith if you want to pop steel and perhaps drop some goats at over 500m, the 7mm Rem Mag will be the better way to go. If you want to drop a Sambar at 400m, then you need every bit of the payload of a 300 heavy.

I've never looked hard at the T3 magazine system but if it is true to their efficient norm., the WSM case won't fit in the longer belted magnum magazine as it is too wide. But you should be able to make the WSM magazine box longer with a little bit of dremel time.

Andrew, the 300 Norma Mag (not the wildcat Lap Mag) is a great cartridge, but it simply won't fit in a T3. Mind you, Keith should be able to lay hands on a TRG at a reasonable price and convert it.

Here we go with the armor plated sambar again. The best cartridge for sambar in my opinion is the 105x790 HE M1 (howitzer offers this chambering in their guns as standard) . Brass and projectiles are dear but it has just enough knock down power for sambar at normal hunting ranges (27km)

Sorry couldn't help myself

back on topic now ha ha ha

I with Jason!

Go the 300WM!

The WSM dose what a WM but with a lot more pressure.

If you want something different what about a 300 Norma Magnum!
