You will find that the 40XB isn't that much better than a standard 700. The external adjustment is probably the best thing about it.
The .22/250AI has a Jewell three lever & glued in follower and the .25/06 Sendero has one of those benchrest followers in it with a tweaked standard 700 trigger
Jewell now your talking .. you just can't improve on a Jewell 3 lever trigger.
I have found the Rem 700 triggers with a 3 lever conversion do a pretty good job as long as you set them correctly and keep them clean.
The Rifle Basix trigger ERW I think is a good choice for a varmit rig and probably what I will do.
Let me know what you think of the 40XB though as I havent used one for many years and they maybe better than I recall.
Well my XR-100 is at QGE waiting to be picked up. Application for PTA went in yesterday, so I should have it in my hot little hands by the middle of next week.
Scope, mounts, reloading gear, bullets, brass all sitting on my bench.

the WOOB
I don't find the Savage action ugly at all. Have only ever owned one Savage, a Model 12 VSS in .22/250, the original Choate stocked gizmo which came with a Sharpshooter trigger. It was an extremely accurate rifle out of the box, the trigger was great, the action was smooth and slick, barrel internally was clean and even. The only things I didn't like were the weight - it was far to heavy to carry around and impossible to shoot offhand - very heavy, and the Choate stock which I disliked from the moment I realised how cheap and cheesy it was. Adjustable butt pad and cheeck rests held to the stock with bloody self tapping screws of all things, a grip cavity with the lid held on with self tapping screws. Biggest problem was the stock just did not fit me - I couldnt get right on the pistol grip. Kept it for a year or so, used it twice in the field, then traded it off.
there is a very very nice Kimber Longmaster 22/250 in my LGS and I have to excercise strict control every time I'm in there. Its been off the shelf in my hands 3 times!
Gunna say i already own the best varmint rifle ever made.
Win Heavy Varmint 222 rem
1-9 twist fluted 26" stainless tube
HS stock
jewled bolt
1 pounds trigger
holds 6 rounds
and is as the name Suggests it's heavy.
The XR100 is a .223 Damien, have a Leupold base with those Burris rings with the adjustable inserts holding a Leupold Vari-XIII 6.5-20x50 on it. Haven't even started working up loads for it yet, only put about 15 rounds of Remington factory through it so far, it shows potential for being a very accurate rifle. Don't think I am going to need to have it bedded - time will tell. Reasonably happy with the trigger, not really up to serious target work standard but fine for field varminting.
